This my my baby, the green machine Model 31 that has been in my family since 1958. It saw me come home from the baby hospital in 1964. Been restored a few times too. Cleans better and runs like a Swiss watch compared to the newer Convertibles in my collection. Great on bare floors and carpet with the slower original motor. I rescued it three times after stupid family members tried to toss it out.

And, like all Hoover Convertibles unlike the Eureka cousins that look like these, these can go under the bed too with the foot switch making the handle lower.

It also automatically adjusts to the height of your carpet. But, you can push down on the handle, and it will allow you to manually set the height high or low.
The step on yoke on off switch was unique to this model. The new Hoover Guardsman models still have this feature, which are really the same model.

It has the switch flap under the back wheels when you insert the attachment which makes the motor run faster, like the newer Convertibles 1975-1989.

This one also has the warp in the side of the hood from the heat of the motor. Hoover corrected this problem with different plastic hood material in later models.

I love my old Hoover 31 the best. Grew up with it, and it still cleans and works well.

p.s. That is my cute golden retriever Dodger who produces the need to vacuum a lot with his hair everywhere!
