The motor seems to be a typical univeral motor. I ran it for 20 mins the other day, and the hood above the motor got so hot that when I wet my finger and touched it, it sizzled! Sorta like when you test an iron for readiness.

So any ideas what I may have to do?

Hello,
Is the motor making any unusal noises? Is the beater bar and belt ok?I would check to make sure that vacuum isn't clog up somewhere or the motor might need a good cleaning( pulling the motor out and blowing it out with air, cleaning the impeller(fan) blades, repacking the bearings, and just give inside the vacuum a good cleaning).Hope this helps!!!
