Here is a picture of the Kirby Classic III cloth bag stitching designs throughout its run.

Picture at left is of the plaid stitching used between June 1976 and November 1977. Original bag part # is 190076 for bag itself, or #190076S for complete bag with cap and guard.

Middle picture is the plaid stitching used between December 1977 and November 1978. Original bag part # is 190077 for bag itself, or #190077S for complete bag with cap and guard.

Picture at right is the plaid stitching used between December 1978 and May 1979. Again, the part is #190077 for bag alone, or #190077S for complete bag with cap and guard.

Hmmm

The first and third look pretty much the same. The one in the middle I see the difference in. My favorite Classic III bag is the one they have out now. I think it's the most attractive. Just my thought though.

Ben in previous posts you gave approx years per serial number. My Classic III's serial number begins with a K and it's the original number of the machine. What what year might you suppost that was from? I am thinking earlier in the Classic III run as it has the cord hooks on the bag side of the handle, but I am not able to locate the original sale bill and no one in the family can remember what year exactly it was purchased.

Yours is likely anywhere between A000001 and C999999 -- mfg. between June 1976 and November 1977. Both the switch to the second version of the plaid stitching for the bag as well as the cord hook relocation started at serial D000001.

1979 Kirby Classic III Bag

Better-quality pic of a '79 Kirby Classic III bag (used between serial #E500001-E999999). Is considered to be a hybrid of the 1976-77 and 1978 versions of the bag.

I'm under the impression the 76-77 bag's stitching had more blue thread used, while the '78 and '79 versions used significantly less blue thread.
