I have this Filter Queen 500, it was made in 1955, can someone tell me what it is, if it still has value, it's in great condition

Hi Catherine.

That's a really easy question to answer. The Filter Queen Model 500 is a vacuum cleaner. ;-) Sorry, I couldn't resist. Now for the rest of the question, any vintage Filter Queen that's been well maintained and still has all of its standard accessories will have value. As for how much value, that depends on a number of factors starting with condition. The closer the machine and its various accessories are to mint condition the higher the value will be. Unfortunately the term mint is thrown around rather casually by some folks so I'll clarify by saying that mint would be the condition that the machine left the factory in, meaning no signs of wear from use. A number of folks on this blog have machines that are in mint condition but they are very rare. One good potential source of valuation would be eBay. Model 500's come up for sale fairly regularly and in a wide variety of conditions, so by watching a few of them and noting how much they actually sold for, you can get a pretty idea of what the current market is. I say 'actually sold for' because there are a lot of delusional sellers listing machines at prices that are way too high and consequently their machines will just sit there. The fact that someone might list a model 500 for $150.00 is irrelevant if nobody bids on it. All that matters is what they're actually selling for. Unfortunately(or fortunately, depending on your point of view)Filter Queens from the past were very well made machines and are therefore not as rare or scarce as one might think. I have a model 31(the model that followed the 500)that I use frequently. It's still in excellent condition and will easily outlast me.

Another factor is completeness. A machine that still has its basic tools will generally command a higher price than a machine in similar condition that doesn't. Unless I'm mistaken the basic tool set consists of a crevice tool, a dusting brush, a carpet tool, a felt pad for the carpet tool which converts it to a hardwood floor tool, and an upholstery tool with a removable brush assembly. Then of course you should have a flexible hose assembly and two metal wands(or tubes if you prefer)with rubber cuffs on one end of each. If all of these things are in good well cared for condition then they can push the value of your machine up some, perhaps even a lot. But in spite of all this, a great deal can depend on nothing more than who the buyer is and how much they want it.

So after all this, I can't really tell you what your particular machine is worth, but I can tell you that vintage model 350's and 500's will often sell on eBay for between fifty and a hundred dollars, with the better condition and more complete machines being nearer to the high end. But if you have an exceptional machine in really nice condition, anything can happen.

Catherine

Here's a model 350 I just found listed on eBay for 174.99. It's the model that immediately preceded the 500, so it would be worth watching to see if it sells at this price. It's a very complete machine having all of its basic tools plus an optional tool or two, and the hose and wands appear to be in very good condition as does the finish on the machine itself. If your machine is in similar condition and is as complete as this one is, then its sale or failure to sell at this price should give you an idea of what your machine might be worth.

yes and..

I have a 1939 Filter Queen model 200A. It was the very first one Health-Mor made. It still runs and has very good suction and is very quiet.
