So I picked up a platinum force upright today by the dumpster where we have permission to take our trash, brought it home and plugged it in, only to find it is not getting any power. The motor doesn't try to start, brush motor doesn't work, and the headlights don't work. Both light bulbs look fine. I bypassed the on/off switch and still nothing, I don't know what to check next. I am moving and am at the old house until tomorrow so I don't have access to anything more than a screwdriver. I will check the cord and switches with a voltmeter probably tomorrow or Tuesday, but is there any other possibility, switches or cutouts? The filter looked fine and the brushroll wasn't jammed. Thanks!

Well....

There's a big possibility that the cabling inside was piched and ripped or the motor actually ripped a cable (I've seen it, so I believe it!) Please post pictures of it when you can, I love these but they're getting pretty rare!

Ok, will check things out tomorrow night or maybe Tuesday. It isn't the best looking, the height adjustment pedal is missing, something on the right front of the nozzle is missing, and it must have been owned by a chain smoker, it is brown/yellow and sticky. The brushroll looks ok though. Are these good cleaners? I have always wanted one and this is only the second one I have seen in person.

Yay! I got to messing with it and I wiggled the plug, it tried to start. I cut the plug off about 4 inches back, and put the wires carefully in the outlet. Flipped the switch and it runs good. I will pick up a plug from the hardware store, and it should be good.

I would love to hear more about it and how it's doing! Also, will there be a video any time soon?

If I'm not mistaken...

the Edge Brush is there. It is located on the right side of the cleaner. You just flip it down and it sticks out on the front right side of the base.

That's great you got it working.

Personally I don't like those windows above the brush roll. I don't want to see the dirt being picked up, I just want it picked up.

That is part of the reason I hate bagless machines, I don't like seeing lots of dust and dirt flying around.

Bags for me, can't see what's in 'em, just throw them out and put a new one in.

I got the new plug installed, cleaned it up a little and vacuumed with it, it seems to work well. Not too horribly loud either. I took everything apart and washed as much as I could, washed the main filter and dirt bin, and am waiting for the filter to dry. At least it didn't smell as bad as it looked, covered in cigarette smoke/tar/nicotine film. It actually smells faintly of carpet fresh. I might actually try to do a video too. Pics for sure.

I got the filter dried and reassembled everything, works even better and looks somewhat better... still not a real looker because of the edge brush missing, plus all the tabs which hold the furniture guard on are broken, thus the guard being held on with duct tape. And of course all the attachments are missing.

Sorry about that, I didn't know that wasn't your vacuum pictured first. You will really enjoy that. I have one but the mechanism that switches it from floor to tool suction broke, so I can't use it on floors. They are great vacuums though and very aggressive. They are great deep cleaners too. Enjoy!

I'm not sure when or if I will do a video, we are moving into the house and it is a mess. Not sure where I would do a video.

I do really like it, it seems to clean well. It seems like the brushroll is a little worn, but it is still very effective.

I always thought the platinum force vacuums looked really cool. Here's a link to the old dirt devil website when the platinum force first came out.

Mine has the height adjustment pedal missing, but you can still manipulate the lever to adjust it.
