I really like those xxx Electrolux Vacs, talk about one tough old machine! If my old Silverado ever goes kaput, I'll probably pull out one of my old xxx models to replace it! Your vacuum looks to be in really good shape, I hope you got a good deal on it!

The XXX is one of my favorite Luxes, along with the XII, AE, and G. Also one of the vacs I believe every collector should own. Here's mine.

Nice!! I bought mine on ebay too, and with a little work, they can look as good as brand new! I also second the point that this vac is one that every collector should own. They are such quiet and awesome machines. Heres a picture of mine.

Happy Vacuuming!
Daniel :-)

packed the bearings with fresh grease the other day that was fun now i need to get some attachments bought a new bag but cant get it to seal

Post# 193635 , Reply# 7   8/6/2012 at 21:59 (4,252 days old) by vacuumfreak (Ontario, Canada)

Does the new bag have a rubber ring that wraps around the metal lip on the bag? If not, that would be why it is not sealing. If not, and if you still have the old bag with the rubber ring around it, you could take the rubber part off of the old bag, and slide it on to the new bag.

Keep us updated on this, because I'm sure someone will be able to help out with any problems that you encounter. I will try my best.

Daniel :-)

It's the vacuum I grew up with.  So quiet and so powerful and long lasting.

Mine resides in Florida.  It's as good as the day it came off the line.

Okay thanks! Was it hard to do? I found the instructions for it on my computer because I saved it when Dave wrote about it on the Vintage Forum. Also, how long did it take approximately for you to do this?

Thanks again!
Daniel :-)

Congrats On The Attachments!

Knew you would find some, the XXX was a popular model with a long production run. Nice looking attachments, and a complete set except for the crevice tool. A little polish and they'll really shine! And the tool caddys are out there. May take you a little longer to find, as they were optional and not everyone had one, but they are out there.

You can.....

find some clear, shrink material to make your old hose like new. A member here mentioned using it. Not cheap, but there's no way the hose will leak over time or stretch out. Nice solution for a collection-ist.  For me since I'm using the vacs, I just buy a new LUX hose and call it good. I won't throw away colored OE hoses, but I don't bother trying to use them.
