Turbo Power canisters:

Hoover Turbo Power 2000 canister-- Futura style suction unit, combination floor/ carpet tool. Not sure of the model number on this one, its hard to find.

Hoover TurboPower 5000 canister. This one is unique because there were 3 versions of the Turbo Power 5000:
1) Turbo Power 5000 S3577- very similar to Futura Supreme S3569. Futura style power head will sticker" Hoover" carpet and bare floor cleaning, original style Hoover hand grip with suction regulator built in. Canister sticker label 9.8Amp motor, 11.0 Cleaning Effectiveness Per Amp rating. approx. 1995/97 model

2) Turbo Power 5000 S3577-- Futura style power nozzle with new sticker Label: "Hoover Turbo Power" Canister suction motor 9.3Amp with allergen removal details on suction unit, gas pump style hand grip no controls on handle. Suction regulator on top chrome wand. approx. 1997/2000

3) Turbo Power 5000 S3612-- This version was more closely modeled of the PowerMax Deluxe series. PowerMax style canister with micro filter located under dusting brush, covered tool storage, allergen removal info sticker on Suction unit. Gas pump style hand with no controls, suction regulator on top chrome wand, PowerMax style power nozzle blanked out belt view window. 9.3Amp motor approx. 2002

Turbo Power 6000 canister S3613- 9.8Amp motor. 12.0 Cleaning Effectiveness per amp rating. This model was based off the PowerMax canister S3603-040. Gas pump style handle with agitator on/off switch on handle, Micro filter under dusting brush, covered tool storage. Belt view window on PowerMax style powerhead. Gold colored sticker on Powernozzle: Turbo Power 6000. There used to be a Hoover vs. video of Hoover power nozzles on youtube. Can't find it now but the PowerMax style head used was the one from the Turbo Power 6000. approx. 1995

TurboPower7500 canister S3649-- This was the top of the line Windtunnel Ultra styled canister. Windtunnel power nozzle, Gas pump style handle with on/off switches for agitator, unit, and electronic suction regulator slide on handle. Covered tool storage included mini Windtunnel turbine nozzle. approx. 2003

TurboPower uprights:
TurboPower 1500- softbag Elite style 17.0 cleaning effectiveness per amp. approx. 1995/97

TurboPower 2200- Elite hard bag claiming 18.0 Cleaning Effectiveness per amp. I believe 7.3Amp motor. Hood cover was Elite style, not Dimension or Legacy. I know many people are thinking 7.3 Amp motor would be Legacy or Dimension but not on this Hoover TurboPower 2200.

I'll do some searching and try to get pictures.

Hoover TurboPower 8000 Windtunnel Self Propelled Bagless Twinchamber upright. U6X60-900. To be kind for all of us, I've modified the model number with an X instead of another 6. Good Luck and prayers for all after seeing this post. Someone at Hoover wasn't thinking when they came up with this model number.

Hi,

All of the dates were approximate. I have no actual information for manufacture dates. I do not know that I purchased a PowerMax S3603-040 in September 1997, at that time Sears was selling the 1st series TurboPower 5000 S3577, and TurboPower 6000 S3613. I remember shopping in Boscovs around 1999 and seeing the 2nd series edition TurboPower 5000 S3577. I have no knowledge of production dates but between leftovers and whenever S3612 hit the market, it would have been very easy to still find a new TurboPower 5000 during the 2000-2002 area. I think the S3612 was discontinued around 2006? I know that Kauffman's was still selling them in 2005.

The thing with the TurboPower series was that it ran from 1990's through late 2000's. There are still a couple Hoover models that are labeled TurboPower now being made but not nearly as many as before. In the mid 1990's the Hoover Self Propelled PowerDrive was the high end of the TurboPower uprights, then later the Windtunnels hit the market and the Deluxe Windtunnel and Self Propelled became the higher end of the TurboPower Series as Hoover gradually changed its whole line of uprights to the clean air bag first style as opposed to fan first direct air systems.

AAAAAhhh, second sentence should read: I do know that my family purchased a Hoover PowerMax S3603-040 in September 1997.

This machine was my first of several PowerMax series power head canisters that I've purchased over the years. It still runs well, my sister now owns it. This is the machine that is pictured in another thread in a JC Penney catalog, also another member was seeking a power head for this model S3603-040 it was the navy blue PowerMax with on/off agitator control on handle. Headlight stayed on in bare floor mode, thanks to the 3 prong plug on the power nozzle. 9.8Amp motor 12.0 Cleaning Effectiveness per Amp. Original agitator was the 2 row spiral design that was solid brush all the way with exception of the belt. It didn't have the gaps for housing support bars when Hoover decided to make the replacement and future model canister vacuums with a universal agitator to fit the Hoover Elite and Dimension uprights.

Here is a pamphlet that was given to me of the TurboPower lineup, although I am unsure of the year this is from. I'm assuming around 2002-2004, considering it includes the bagless Windtunnels. I would have scanned these, but my scanner is not working currently, so the pictures are not the greatest.

The cover-

Wow, wonderful, I was trying to find a large picture of a TurboPower 4500 but couldn't, I really like those ones. That brochure is great. I used to have a brochure of the early series which would have had the Dimension Dirt Finder, Power Drive and PowerMax canister TurboPower models. I'm hoping its still at my parents house, I'll have to search for it when I see them over Thanksgiving.

Does anyone have a TurboPower 5000 or 6000 canister, preferably the S3577 model, I would love to have a picture of one of those on here!

Hi Director 12. In a way I would say you probably would have seen them at various stores. For the most part these models were dealer sold to include the Hoover factory stores-- I miss them :( However as I stated in descriptions Sears sold the TurboPower 5000 & 6000 canister in the 1990's, Boscovs, Kauffman's, Strawbridges and other May owned department stores also sold many of these models.

JC Penney sold very few vacuums in store. Most of what they have in the past decade has been on their website. I do not recall any particular models that they would have carried other than the Hoover Windtunnel bagless canister S3765.

My TurboPower 4000

I recently stumbbled across my HOVER TURBO POWER 4000 with MICRO FILTRATION and 20 cleaning effectiveness per amp! At 7.3 amps that's over 140 CEs! I'm careful to keep the pets away. Can anyone shed some light on this thing? I've found a number of other TP's but not the 4000. I'm not sure what the "micro filtration" is all about. The full bag indicator appears not to trigger until the bag is in danger of explosion. Suction is still very strong and attachment suction is surprisingly strong. Thanks for any info you can tell me.

I have a J CPenney catalog with TurboPowers in it. In recent years the catalogs had very few vacuums and most were off-brands. I don't recall any vacuums displayed in-store until very recently, within the last year or few.

That's a Turbopower 2 and is in no way linked to the original UK Turbopower apart from it's name.

This is the original Turbopower line up from 1983.

The use of the name "Turbopower" on the TP2, 3 and TP1000 actually really irritates me. The whole thing that made the cleaner "Turbopower" in the first place was the high power dirty fan motor combined with the newly designed activator brushroll. The TP2 is clean air, thus removing the "Turbo" part of the power really.

The only reason that the name was used is because the TP1 was the biggest selling cleaner for the best part of the 80's and Hoover wanted to keep associated with that name to continue the high sales.

And what rubs even more salt into the wounds is Hoover's use of TurboPower on the new cleaners, completely thrusting the public's opinion of what once was a great cleaner, now just on cheap bagless rubbish.

I think the public opinion of Hoover went down the pan years ago, regardless of what they call their machines now. Plus, I highly doubt that the average public, with a few exceptions, will even remember that the Turbopowers were called Turbopowers.

The only Hoover vac I have ever owned is a U5133-940 Caddy Vac. I am interested in some of the canister Hoovers shown, or maybe a Futura or Dimension 1000, but have never once seen any of these. Are they better made and quieter than the Caddy Vac?
