I have read some threads on here about the Constellation filter material, and how some use cheesecloth or a vacuum bag to replace it. I have a Penncrest version of a tilted Constellation for a while. When I got it the bag was full of dog hair and had a bag odor, but I saved what appears to be the original fiber filter. I moved the vacuum in the house recently and noticed the filter still has an odor. Can these be washed or best to replace with a new material? I also see Constellation filters on eBay and wondered if these are new to fit the newer Constellation or go on older units.

If you see round filters, they're ok.

Some used felt. Some were "stitch witchery", (I THINK that's what it is).. It's like the fabric on the bottom of a mattress, only stiffer. Look on ebay. You can still see a lot of them there. I personally would advise on "chucking" that old, odorous filter.

Does the filter feel as firm as it did when it was new ? If so, then I'd give it a good clean and see if that cures the odour.

If it is worn out, replace it.

Filter

I had the same problem! This is what you need to do. Go to JoAnn fabric, or a fabric store. Ask for Muslin. That's the stuff they use on sets to make walls and such. Use two layers of it and you will have a filter better then the original. That's what I use and it works amazing!
