Mine is in beat up shape.

The attached picture shows rust on the handle assembly (which can't really be seen), and the height adjuster has problems going from normal to high.

Dirt on furniture guard...

Ick.

Dirt on bag fill pipe

More ick. Is this machine worth keeping, or should I scrap it? I don't have the brushroll; it was completely rusted. The bag is in good shape, with a small stain, but the zipper works perfectly, which I hear is rare.

You are considering scrapping a Vacuum Cleaner for DIRT ? Are you for real ?

I wouldn't scrap a Vacuum Cleaner for anything less than a blown motor, even then I'd get a replacement if I could.

Yes, I know I am crazy.

But it has lots of rust and I don't really need a upright, because I have hardwood floor. I need a canister vac to dust my tables and stuff.

And I also don't want to take the time to clean that caked-on dirt off the rubber parts.

"And I also don't want to take the time to clean that caked-on dirt off the rubber parts." With all due respect, that does not sound like a Vacuum Cleaner collector to me...

Some naval jelly......

.... a brillo pad, some spray cleaner, a tub of water, plenty of rags and a lot of elbow grease should return her to her glory.  Never give up.....

And - that's NAVAL jelly, not NAVEL jelly.  Just so you don't get confused and end up with a sore belly button trying to get the jelly out.    Embarassed

Ducks and runs toward the fireworks..............

I also think the motor is on its way out. It is very loud and does not sound at all like a Hoover Convertible.

Don't scrap it! There will most definitely be someone who wants it, and you could possibly trade it for something that would better suit your needs. I am sure there are plenty of people on this site that would be willing to trade something!

You know, I would be willing to trade it to someone who has time to restore it. But I don't think I could get something I want for a beat-up rusty old Hoover.

Keep that Hoover! You may think it's in bad shape, but I'm sure someone else will be able to fix whatever is wrong with it or see the parts are in good enough shape to make it a parts machine. And I'm sure you will get something worthwhile for it.

Alright, I'll keep it.

The problems with it are:
No brush roll/beater bar assembly
A few stains on the bag
Furniture guard and bag fill pipe are caked in dirt
No headlamp
A finicky power switch
Height adjuster has problems (and so does the indicator window)
Oh, and did I mention rust everywhere?

Does anyone have any ideas what it is worth?
