The third label used on the R-1024 has a solid brown background, with the Rainbow script on top and silver/yellow-orange gradient stripes below. The color of the power cord on the nozzle changes from white to brown, too. This coincided with the change of color of the D2 unit from copper to chocolate brown. Production was in the 1979 calendar year.
For 1980, its final year, the script and stripes would switch positions (read: the stripes will be near the top of the decal, and the Rainbow script below them). ~Ben |

Photo by K. Logan Hall - this is a Eureka 1789 Ironsides canister with Roto-Matic Power Team nozzle. Produced from 1989-93 (this example was built in 1992), this is said to be the last of the canisters with the 1973-style Roto-Matic Power Team nozzle (although, the Power View version, as seen here, first appeared in 1981).

Hey Ben! Nice ad for the Vactronic!
It's very interesting to see the change in corporate name for Eureka's Canadian division. Up until Eureka's purchase by Sweden's Electrolux in 1974, all Eurekas sold in Canada were made at the Onward Manufacturing plant in Kitchener, Ontario (about a day's truck drive from headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois). The 1983 ad for the 1790 Power Team shows that Electrolux opened up a Canadian office in Cambridge, Ontario - closer to Toronto - perhaps because it may have already been home to Canadian Frigidaire which was also bought by Electrolux. By 1983, the Canadian division's name had been changed to Euroclean Canada Incorporated - reflecting the new European connection. Many of us know the Euroclean name by the commercial vacs branded with the name at the time. I think some Sanitaires took on the Euroclean name too, along with some European-made commercial canister vacs. |

It's interesting that for some corporate reason, Compact could not use the following Eureka-copyrighted terms on the head of the vac: "Edge Kleener," "Rugulator," and "Vibra-Groomer." The label on the motor head says "Edge Cleaner," "Height Adjustment" and something like "Turbo Beater Agitator" - it's blurry, so I can't really make it out! :-)

Brian (eurekaprince),
Could you please solve the mystery as to what the Roto-Matic Power Team Power View with power nozzle (with the yellow stripes; see post #184214, or reply #15, of this thread) originally came from? I'd suspect Eureka stopped making their 1200 series "canned ham" canisters around 1983, when the 1700 family showed up (the Vactronic and others). In fact, I'd like to think Eureka discontinued all their 1200 series product in '83. ~Ben |

Ben,
It is indeed a mystery to me. The harvest gold on the pn label matches the Empress Two canister, but I would hazard a guess that the two were not sold together originally. Let's look at the clues: One - the Roto Matic Power Nozzle may be one of the earliest versions with the Power View belt condition window. This is because it is using the old Eureka Williams branding. But I don't think Eureka sold the Empress Two body much into the 1980's. We do indeed see many Empress Two style canisters in the 1980's that are branded for retailers (Eaton Viking, JCPenney, Wards), but I'm pretty sure those with the Eureka Williams branding stopped showing up in stores by 1980. I think it is possible that the gold Power View nozzle may have been sold with another style of Eureka canister, since the Sweet Sixteen 1600 series body style was available throughout the 1980's. These Sweet Sixteens came in a variety of colours, including brandy wine and Harvest Gold and hunter green. It's important to remember that the Eureka Express Power Team came out in 1985, and so Eureka probably started phasing out the "Power View" nozzle shown in this pic by the late 1980's. So my guess is that the newer Power View nozzle was probably sold with a Harvest Gold Sweet Sixteen canister - maybe a special "retro" edition for some department store like Macy's or Target or some other one. I don't think this kind of pn was ever sold with that Empress Two canister. I could be wrong, though!!!! :-) |

Those Eureka made canned ham cannisters with PN sure were powerful machines but were SOOO HEAVY to lug and pull around. They were also prone to getting hung up on doorways, furniture, ect.
A neighbor lady we had in the mid 1970s had the orange/yellow version with the push buttons, and woodgrain PN,,i dont remember if it had a headlight tho,,i want to say it did not. She also had thick wall to wall shag carpet and shag on her long stairway. She had "Indoor/Outdoor"(very low tight pile) carpet in her kitchen and bathrooms and you would have to lower the suction of the vac or else the PN would stick to it, and you couldnt push or pull the PN. She liked for her wood panel walls to be vacuumed once in awhile, and i remember that extra wide floor and wall brush sure came in handy. I was just a kid then, but she would pay me a couple of dollars (big money on those days!) to come over and vacuum her house, top to bottom. She would leave and run errands and i would happily vacuum away with the Eureka. Typical of small town, 1970s Midwest. That Really was an excellent vacuum, but not very user friendly as far as cleaning a large home with alot of stairs, furniture, and thick shag carpet. After about the first hour, my arm would be sore from dragging that thing around, and having to go back and unhook it from whatever it got held up on. Sure was good exercize tho! |

Ben and Eurekaprince. That mystery nozzle went to a mid to later 80's sweet sixteen style aka ironside shaped rotomatic with the matching stripe label on a larger carry handel (remember when the higher end models had the wide handel with the black gritty label with a color stripe through it, well that's what I mean and the stripe was yellow. Sadly I don't know the model number but I remember the machine.
