For Christmas 2011, one gift I received was a Eureka Airspeed. I was excited to get it and put it to the test, and after using it as a daily driver for six months or so, I figured it was time to share my experience with you all. I’m slightly disappointed in it, but for $98 it’s not a huge loss.

Assembling this machine was a nightmare; there were a LOT of pieces to put on. I actually had to read the manual to put it together! But, it came with a spare belt, a filter cleaning tool, and other nice things like that, so I wasn’t too upset. It had a lot of suction, and cleans medium pile carpet quite well. However, it is useless on hard floors, low carpet, and eats shag and flattens the pile instead of pick it up. I’ve never had a vacuum eat belts like this one does either; in six months it has gone through five belts! I’m not putting a lot of stress and strain on it either, just the normal cleaning that never seems to end in this house.

The filter in the dust bin stays relatively clean thanks to a ‘protective’ shroud covering it. I’ve only taken it out to clean it once since I’ve had the vacuum, so I am pleased with that. The brushroll is VERY aggressive, too much so. I can’t use this on my shag carpet because it pulls up so much fiber, and hair is easily caught in the brush. Tool use is a bit of a pain, because you have to flip a lever to direct suction to the hose, and more importantly remember to put the lever back to vacuum carpets afterwards, but it has strong suction and a great turbine brush. The crevice tool is too short for what I need it for, and the brush leaves a lot to be desired, but then again the vacuum was a $98 gift, so I don’t mind it ;).

The Airspeed has two filters that need replacing every six months, but I doubt most people actually do that. It has four height adjustments, and one thing that annoyed me from the day I got it was the ‘Bare Floor’ setting is a notch higher than the ‘Low Carpet’ setting, which doesn’t make any sense. I guess it doesn’t matter anyway because this machine spits debris out on both types of flooring. Honestly, the only thing it is good for is medium pile carpeting, and stairs.

Overall, the Eureka is good for medium pile carpets, and anywhere you need a good turbo brush, such as stairs or small rugs. It flattens shag carpet, and eats belts, and leaves a lot to be desired. But, as a gift, I’ve learned to live with it for these six months. I’m now in pursuit of a new daily driver to replace it, and have retired it as a collection vacuum, using my Windtunnel instead. If you guys have any questions or want more information feel free to ask! Pictures are soon to come.

I have an airspeed and must say I am very impressed with it, I used it in my office which has thick cutpile carpet. It has worked well. the filter is faily easy to clean, it comes with a very handy dsut brush for cleaning the filter. I did find if you set it to low you will snap the belts but thats to be understood. Use the correct setting and it will work very well. I like the obt setup and the switch for the hose.

Over all I think its a very good machine for its price. $100.00
