Its black, brother brought home for me to clean up and do something with. How old is the guy? Seems pretty high quality, easy to take apart and clean. I kind of like it!

Oreck

doesn't make a bad vacuum. Some people have really given them a bad rap. The Oreck really grooms carpet nicely! However, I wouldn’t want one as my only vacuum. When buying an Oreck used you will need to be careful, because most of the ones I've found have busted fan housings. Which is probably the fault of the former owner picking up a coin or something hard to break the housing.  I’ve found two in the trash with busted housings, the part was cheap and it was an easy fix!

-I'm not referring to the XL-21 just the common older versions.

Look on the manufacturing label for what I call "born" date..like 11265..that would be the 265th day of 2011. The Pro Plus label tells me it was a big box store Oreck or maybe QVC, but not one sold in the stores or from corporate. If the bristles on the brushroll are white, it will not last long. It was something that the manufacturer of the brushroll tried, something chemical I think to inhibit bacteria growth, but it was not a great thing. Those brushrolls only last about a year with regular use. Oreck realized this early on, and put those brushrolls on the big box store and refurbished models. They were softer than the red, and didn't groom quite as well in my opinion.

They are white, 3 missing. Unit still looks new, just needed good cleaning, smelled like wet dog. Label says Date:09153C ?? Made no sense to me.

09153C...2009..153rd day of the year..the C stands for Cookville, must have been during the cutover when they first started assembly at that plant in Tn.

If the smell is in the outer bag, remove the bag dock piece that holds the bag onto the machine by sliding it up and off, then wash the bag in the tub with Gain original detergent, rinse very well and hang or lay to dry. That is how we do it at the store and have had favorable results.

Kind of ironic on the anti bacterial brushroll, it smelled pretty bad.
