Both Dyson and Oreck do not seem to be well received here, but if you had to use one, which would choose? Personally I'd rather get the Oreck. The brush roll is nice, it uses self-sealing bags, and Oreck is currently providing lifetime warranties.

Definitely Oreck, but as long as I got the old canister they had. The new one looks cheap.

I love my dysons, I'm not a fan of bags and need tools on board?

But would like to give the pilot a go!

I would go with the Oreck Forever Gold, unless you're set on the swivel neck on the Pilot. It's the same vacuum, except for the swivel and the Pilot has a non-functional bulkier outer bag which causes it not to lay as flat as the Gold, and you'll save 100.00! That bulkier bag on the Pilot also tends to shift around on the handle, in fact, one of my Oreck customers had us change the Pilot bag out for the other because of the above reasons.

Oreck all the way! In my opinion Oreck builds a great vacuum! The XL-21 is a great improvement over the previous design.

Having worked for an Oreck dealer I would vote for the Pilot. It is pretty much the same as the XL21 which I love. It's a good cleaning machine, grooms the carpet nicely and has a very good filtering bag.
