Hi all just picked up a nice vintage eureka upright with a metal body and fan,the metal fan blades look a bit higher than the black plastic replacement fan I purchased from hesco. Is this fan OK to install or should I go with the larger blade fan that is also sold? This model has a 3.8 amp motor that I want to replace with a 5.5 amp motor from a newer machine.

Replacement parts

If the original motor works, KEEP IT, though you could swap it. just keep the original motor safe. And yes the newer fan will work just fine!

Bottom bearing

It can be replaced but you have to have a drill. If you dont feel like going through the process of changing a bearing then just do like you said and put a different motor in it. In my now 30 year old 2 speed sanitaire motor I had to replace the lower motor bearing, IT SCREAMED! But now it is fine and runs like a Sanitaire motor should! But changing a bearing is quite easy though.

Metal base

Plus the plastic fan should spin faster since it is not as heavy as the metal fan. It seems nice having an all metal Eureka!

Hesco has a kit

Thanks for all the advice, hesco has a kit to replace the bottom bearings on eureka's,I have rebuilt many electrolux and kirby motors and I dissasembled a eureka 6.5 amp motor and did see the bearing plate rivets. It looks like a common 8mm bearing and the brushes are easy to replace, hope to find a sanitaire and do a full motor rebuild. Could you email me your phone num.? It is so much easier to talk in person about repair procedures,my email is kirbykid63@gmail.com.

Thanks
Richard Groski
