Just incase anyone wants to see what the 1970s upright Panasonics looked like (look to the left)

Lemme know what y'all think about the design ;]

Leave it to you Ian, I collect Panasonic products, and have two small booklets and a few portables. Oh yes, the vacuum- I like it. Dig that silver "spaceship" tv on the end. Very collectable. My booklets have vacuums too.

You must send me scans of the vacuum pages, you know my email address ianmoore88@gmail.com

nice detailed scans ;p

I've seen a few of those silver tv's come up on ebay now and then, Matsushita's designs were often as revolutionary as it's management practices ;] for those who don't get the hit, ie: very

lol

I got this blender the other day off Ebay. It's the Panasonic Recipe Blender, very cool. That might be it in the back left of the brochure...
It has a large viewing window and you twist the dial timer to what job you're doing and press start. You change recipes by pushing that big white button and the "card" flips to the next one,,aka another speed. And it's "solid state" always a give away to 60's and early 70's stuff.

Post# 17555 , Reply# 6   7/31/2007 at 21:46 (6,084 days old) by petek (Ontario)

Here's the top of the line Panasonic Blender. Chrome and with electronic timer,,no mechanical dials here and solid state.
I love Panasonic 60's 70' stuff.. have some more somewheres, plus the Jet Flo vacs. I have a neat little 4 inch tv that pops up out of the case,,runs on recharable battery as well.

Ah yes, the pandora..thats seen in that brochure ;p

heh, Panasonic's TV names in the 70s were a bit odd...the pandora, the orbitel (easy to guess what that was :P) and the wilmington..

Model names are always fascinating to me. My house was built in 1961, we are the only family to ever live here. It was built by Mackle Brothers, for General Developement. Anyhow, this house model name is fhe "Tampico" Orbitel is of course the little spaceship TV. I will try to post scans of my little Panasonic booklet vacuum cleaners, I am fighting keeping several curious cats out of the room the booklets are hidden in.

Heh, you love the little buggers really ;p

and yes scan the vacuums when you're ready..either post em here or email em to me.

not many other people here seem to share the passion for Japanese electricals as us three guys do ;]

Bit weird having houses with model names.. far as i'm aware mine's just ya average early 70s british house, I guess it could have a style code for internal use :P

Matsushita used to make houses you know, prefabricated ones..I dunno if they still do.

Oh that's interesting. Maybe it's an American thing to name products, it is more personal than a model number. Don't care for the car trend in a lot of makers to only use numbers instead of names.

Post# 17587 , Reply# 13   8/1/2007 at 08:37 (6,083 days old) by ian88 ()

Ah well that's a mostly european thing too, Peugeot especially uses just model numbers as does Citroen..

Best get those pics sorted soon Alan, to kick this back into topic :P

More Panasonic fans! I've never seen any of the small appliances or older vacs, but I have a beautiful clock radio with the digital "leaves" readout that I love. A friend here in town gave it to me and it keeps perfect time. I'd love to see one of those announcing clock radios sometime - how fun. My brother in law who is blind would like that one too!

Thanks for posting the brochure - very interesting.

Post# 17651 , Reply# 19   8/1/2007 at 19:49 (6,083 days old) by ian88 ()

I'm just waiting for Alan to post his 70s Panasonic Vac brochures <3 lol

Doug Smith (a canadian collector, has a website) has some nice old japanese vacs too, 2 old Hitachi canisters and a 70s Sanyo cylinder if I recall correctly...these must be preserved more than any other vacuum! as the law in japan is that any appliance older than 10 years must be thrown away due to safety reasons or something ;p

Post# 17652 , Reply# 20   8/1/2007 at 19:52 (6,083 days old) by ian88 ()

(you search ebay.com for "vintage panasonic" and all the prizes will be revealed ;p it's the same with most of the brands..vintage toshiba, hitachi et al)

Post# 17663 , Reply# 21   8/1/2007 at 20:16 (6,083 days old) by petek (Ontario)

The Panapet radios are quite neat and collectible as is their Toot A Loop radio, not shown

Post# 17665 , Reply# 22   8/1/2007 at 20:19 (6,083 days old) by ian88 ()

Oh god the toot a loop, I love the scope of Panasonic's older products..alas much like VW, Honda, Hoover etc..they've followed with convention..

I HATE how every damn product looks the same nowerdays.

Post# 17675 , Reply# 23   8/1/2007 at 20:51 (6,083 days old) by petek (Ontario)

Sanyo put out some great products for the home as well and they were usually less expensive but well made. Their stuff never had the "cachet" though.

And well, Konosuke Matsushita (founder of Matsushita ie, national, panasonic, technics, pioneer etc ;p) does happen to be my business idol and inspiration..

there he is, don't let his diminutive appearance fool you...his mind was sharp as a knife, alas he left us in 1989.

Ian, I am going to try to dig those pictures out today, and then I have to figure out how to scan and send, and it is a complete disaster here at this time. I'll send vacuum pics here, and some of my radio pics on the off-topic forum. I'm sorry if it might look like I'm giving you the business.

Panapet

I had a Panapet when I was younger! That was the greatest radio ever! Mine was that lovely yellow color.
Man, I miss a lot of stuff from the 70's. :-(

and I can't find the damn Panasonic booklet with the vacuums!! I found a 98 page book, and a 38 page of video and audio. Still looking!

I'd have thought all 98 pages would have at least 1 vacuum but maybe i'm being naive :P

lol

good design, tools come with it and all..clean fan, modern design with just a hint of old fashioned-ness...I wouldn't excpect any less from Panasonic.

I have not shelled out for a proper camera as of yet, and I can't figure how to transmit scans yet, either. I know you're not picking, but I am anxious to be a part of the visual aspect of this site, and am subjecting you all to half-a__ed images. Money is tight. Oh, and I guess you noticed it is not a Jetflo.

God no, I love the jetflo design (the old browny ones) but that design pictured has to be my favorite upright panasonic atm, lol.

I've never seen

a Panasonic blender before, but I remember those ball radio's, and the upright Vacuum in the brochure was also sold by Eureka as the Emperor upright.

Thanks for posting that Tom
From what i have read on vacland the Emporor was made for Eureka by panasonic.

The two machines are so similar but the major difference is the motor setup. From a pic i saw on a thread here the Eureka has a vertically mounted motor were as the panasonic has its own style motor mounted horrizontely as seen in the above pics.

The Emperor motor sits horizontal, and has a belt changing tool. The metal fan is awesome, moves a ton of air.

Thank you, My mistake , I found a picture on Vac land and it looked like the motor was vertical like a normal Eureka.

Looks awesome I will take some better pics of mine later

So, this Panasonic vac is not a Jet Flo, right? I don't see any Jet Flo markings and it appears to be a direct-air machine, just with the motor set further behind the brushroll and at a 90 degree angle, or am I mistaken?
