Hello all! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what year the model "M" for Eureka first came into production?

Model M...

The Eureka M debuted in approximately 1935 and stayed in the Eureka line-up for several years, going through painted versions and alterations, and eventually morphing into the D272. A wonderful vacuum.

D272

The later model D272 was the vacuum I learned on as a kid.

Anthony -

The Eureka M was one of the most beautiful vacuums I think Eureka ever produced.

Here are the pages of a great pamphlet from approximately 1936, showing the Eureka line-up of the G-2, R, M and the hand portable.

An interesting historical note: the G-2 was "added on to" (though it does not show that change in this pamphlet). Eureka tacked on a headlight to the G-2 to make it more than competitive with other bottom-of-the-line models of the time.

Here's the cover of the pamphlet:

And the fabulous Model M. [I love the mention of the "adjusticator"]

And the back of the pamphlet. The handheld with detachable nozzle. I think it was called the Model J:

Here's an earlier model from the 1920's. Maybe John can put a name or model number to it.

STEEL fan-bet no worries about hitting things there!Bet it would pass the Royal "penny" test with no problem!Wonder if it was a machined steel fan or a stampted sheet metal one.The machined steel--EXPENSIVE-but most durable! The machine probably would need a steel lined fancase-otherwise the steel fan could drive something through it!

WOW! Nice pictures guys! I have always liked the look of the Eureka "M". Seems very Kirby like, but fancier! I also have a G-2. I like the slow rotation of the roll brush these cleaners have.

Hi Bernie -I think your Eureka is a Model 11, or the model right before it. Circa 1928 or 29....J

Hi John...

truckerx's profile picture
The only clue I have to its age would be the latest patent mark which, on this machine, is 1926. So, it is a model 11? The ID tag doesn't give a model number, just a serial number and patent dates. Thanks for that information.

I Have The G-2!

And mine has the headlight. Also have one of the straight suction models, but unfortunately the nozzle latch is broken and I haven't yet been able to find one. Sure would like to find attachments for both of these.

I believe one of these M262s surfaced in Saint Louis, it was brown not burgundy. I wish I had the pic

Very nice, this looked like a D272 but matte brown. I heard a collector picked it up.

Nice, Tom.

The one in the 1st photo reminds me of a Kirby 500 Series cleaner, and the color of the second one brings to mind Eureka's 1978 brandywine series cleaners.

Paul,

The Eureka model M is a wonderful vacuum that looks very much like the Kirby 2C-505 I agree.
