Oh and before I forget, my Electrolux 504 upright from the 1970s, this was from Electrolux Europes first EVER series of clean air uprights.

Same basic concept as the Dial A Matic, just refined a bit.

Oh and (lol @ my memory :P) my early 1980s Hoover Powerplus upright, an updated version of the Senior/Convertible.

Love the collection Ian! I have the Electrolux 504 (here in Canada it's a Dometic 504). I'd love to find the Electrolux 170 upright that you have. Is it a loud machine? Can you still get bags for it?

Guy

I don't see bags for the 170 in shops, i've seen em on UK parts websites though, as for the noise levels it's not too loud, about average for a plastic bodied dirty fan machine lol. I do like how it purrs when grooming the carpet ;]

(oh and please ignore the muck on most of em :P I have to keep em in the garage most of the time, but yes they all work perfectly!)

Great vacuum collection, Ian. When I think of Electroluxes, I seldom think of uprights, I love yours, and the Hoover Junior Deluxe the most here. The Hollandia De-Luxe cylinder is quite a looker also. Forgive the off topic comment, but I have a cassette tape of British pop hits of 1959 compiled by a Jimmy Savile, who was a disc jockey.

Thanks mate, now i've properly figured out how to use my digital camera (lol) I can get some more ones for this thread.

and as for Jimmy Savile I was attempting to copy his rather...bizzare speech patterns ;]

(and yeah he was a disc jockey, he's courted some controversy mostly due to his odd appearance and mannerisms ;p)

Ian, you have a great collection, thanks so much for sharing it with us. That Hollandia looks like a very interesting machine. Do you have any of the attachments for it. Would love to see the rug nozzle. Also wondering if in the picture you have the hose connected to the blower end or the suction end. Seeing the cord come out where it does I was just wondering?? Terry

No attachments i'm afraid, I just use ones off my goblin..they fit just fine..I think there's an extension tube somewhere.

And yes my brother who took the pictures accidently put the hose in the blower port :P I must take a picture of the front of the cleaner, it looks very strange.

An interesting thing about the Electrolux 100 series uprights. (152 160 and 170 respectively..the first of which coming out in the late 60s) they were actually designed by Ogle Design, a british independant design company that is more famous for it's aston martin designs....

Anyway, the funny thing is how the bag housing opens..you have to unclip the large metal clip, then the housing slides down slightly, then you swing it round and take the bag out from behind! I love the cleaner for that fact alone, to add to the quirkiness whilst being a dirty air cleaner it has a small filter in the bag chamber, and it has no front wheels and sort of skids along instead...amusingly this is much like some of the lux cylinders of the time ;]

Wouldn't mind one of them, i've got one (but non powerdrive) with a hole in the front which I had to fill in with some car bodywork filler.

works well mind, don't half make a racket ;] cleans well though.
