I realize there's been a lot of discussion about the various Vibragroomer brushrolls. I wanted to get some more specific information on them, however.

I know some prefer the VGI, others the VGII. Obviously, they are of a different design: VGI has a sculpted aluminum spiral body, VGII is a chromed metal roll with integrated beaters. I would think there's a difference in performance as Eureka has offered both.

Clearly there must be as the designs are undeniably different and folks profess their preference for one over the other.

So what's happening with these brushroll to make them perform differently? It seems to me that the open spiral design of the VGI may promote better unimpeded airflow to the fan. Perhaps the more solid body of the VGII promotes better beating, however.

I just tried the VGI for the first time. My impression is of better airflow than the VGII, but not as good beating performance. Does that about sum it up in your experience?

I also notice the hexagonal end-caps are different between the two. My VGI has solid cast aluminum end-caps. My VGII has rubber slip-on mounts that form the end-caps. It seems the solid caps of the VGI would transfer vibration into the vacuum body directly, whereas the VGII rubber caps would be isolating, and much gentler in that regard. It makes me think that using the VGI would accelerate wear on the machine because of that transference of vibration.

Are there specific instances where one would be preferable over the other? Any thoughts or observations regarding these two brushrolls are most welcome!

All the better Sanitaire uprights had the VG-I brush roll, including the SC888 and SC899 (and the very rare Wide Track II SC24), while models SC684 and SC886 both used the VG-II roll.
