It was an interesting weekend for me... I was in Wichita Kansas for the Fan Fair '06, which is the convention for the afca(American Fan Collectors Association), and I met a new friend! His name is Mitchell, and he is 6 years old. I had brought my war-torn Electrolux model 12 and a Kirby D80(a friend of mine requested that I bring the Kirby, because he grew up with the D80)Mitchell saw that Kirby, and he went nuts!!! He just had to try it. He says that he has a "Big Brown Kirby" at home, but one of the front wheels is broken, and he hasn't been able to use it in a while. I showed him the pre and post convention newsletter from the vccc, and he loved all the pics of the vacuums! Just like a kid in a candy store- he was all like "I want this one! I want that one! Ooh, that one's wierd!" He's only 6 and has over 100 fans, but he sure had fun with that Dual 80! I'll bet he'd love another vac or two, as he only has a Kirby Classic Omega in his collection. Here's a pic of him.

HI JASON!

Welcome to the Forum -- glad to see you here! Yes, it's pretty obvious you have found a future member of the club.

Gee ... six years old and already has a hundred fans? My God. What's he gonna be like when he's SIXTY? He'll be one of those people you see on the news who were so trapped by their clutter that they had to have an intervention run on them, haha!

(There was a story on "complusive clutterers" the other night -- one lady had accummulated so much stuff that she literally had to burrow tunnels and passageways through the mountains of stuff piled all the way to the ceilings to get from one room to another.)

Kyle Invades Hollywood

Hi Kyle, I'm going like mad getting the place clean and respectable enough for company. HOPEFULLY, I'll be done by Monday! You will get to at least see my collection but I am not sure the workshop will be ready in time. I don't have time to spend much time out there so it's kinda cobwebby and creepy. But I'll try. Sorry to say, I do not have a single Air-way upright. I have a couple of the canister models and that is all. Looking forward to meeting you and your family!

My order of alienating interests goes...

Vacuums
Fans
Washers
All the delightful small appliances (mixers, blenders, etc)

I would love a dark green General Electic fan (like the 1920's models) . I currently only have 1 vintage fan. its an Emerson. Very fun fan.

Wow that is great....

As most of us know when we were little like that we were excited about vacs when we were his age. I know I was as someday I will try to put my home movie of me on the web site, running my moms Dual 80, when it was brand new, it is a short clip but will be fun to show everyone. Jason, that is a great looking Dual 80 do you have all of the attachments to it? As you can tell it is my favortie Kirby. Alot of my neightbors on the farm bought one the same time my folks did. I know 3 others had at the same time. Looks like the salesmen that day made a few bucks.

Sorry,

don't have a D80 either. The newest Kirby I have is a LegendII with optional sanitronic-style front nozzle, and then a D50. That's it for the more recent machines. Oh, and I also have a Classic III in pieces.......

I have a Dual-80 & attachments (not sure how complete those are) in the garage. It's in good shape but has one broken rear wheel and needs a loving restoration overall. I picked it up at a thrift store about a year ago and would now like to find a good home for it. Anyone one interested (Kyle?) email me and it's yours for the postage!

Yo, Kyle!

So ya into the old mean green machine?(Dual Sanitronic 80) I tell ya what, I have 2 of 'em! The one featured in the pic, and another in the attic. Let's chat and maybe we can figure somethin out!(I really only need one!)

'sup

Yeah, I believe that I do have the attachments(all except for some of the handi-butler stuff, but mosta that's out there too)I have like, a barrel of old green attachments that I got when I bought a building full of old trade-ins and stuff a few years ago from a vac shop owner. Nothin in there was newer than 1983!

Hey, Charles-Richard

I forgot to tell ya, at the big antique fan collector meeting, I did stumble on a few vacs! One(which I've never even heard of), a Dual 50, and a Hoover Dustette, which I bought from the guy with the display table next to mine. Oh, and last Thursday night, we went to the Vornado fan factories presidents house for an outdoor bbq and then we were treated to a performance on his big Whirlitzer(dunno if I spelled it right, but you know what I mean) organ by a couple of my friends who volunteered! They were even takin requests! Believe it or not, this guy actually has two of these things in his livingroom!(Along with a big black piano and a bijillion fans!)

Kyle the Kirby Man!

Sure, it'd be possible to get a D80 real shiney, either with a buffing wheel, or hand polish. I normally polish my vacs with a buffing machine, but if I just want one to be presentable, I normally use #0000 steel wool and some sort of polish like you'd use if you were polishing silverware or mag wheels or something. I recommend a paste. I either get mine at Wal-mart in the automotive- "Simichrome polish" seems to work well also. But if you want that "like new" appearance, I recommend a buffing machine, but it takes time and practice.

so ya want the 'ol mean green machine

Prices? well, it kinda depends on what condition ya want. good runner with a decent appearance, or all out buffed and everything. I've not got any factory original green Kirby bags. In fact, the Kirby in the photo has an aftermarket bag on it. Instead of the word Kirby in each oval, it has this |/. or, I do Have some more that have the letter "K" in each oval. I can order an original factory bag with "KIRBY" in each oval, but it'll cost ya.

Hi, I am another Kyle

I was curious if anyone had a good condition Kirby 515 bag so that I can trade my Kirby replacement bag (Kirby in ovals) to someone else! The bag is tan, not green, so I guess this is a replacement. Thanks!

Kyle O., 14
