I have known that Miele were due to introduce a new range to replace the S5 for a few months and today after searching on a regular basis I have finally found this video on YouTube.
The light on the handgrip is an unusual idea but I suppose it has a benefit. Can't see why there's a light at the base of the cleaner, apart from it looking cool.
Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what people think. I believe there will be about five models but I can't see any details on any of Miele's website yet.

I have always thought...

a light on the handle would be brilliant! :)

Yes, the light on the handle is a good idea.

Apart from sending a beam of light down to the floorhead, I can see it being useful when using the cleaner without the tube for example in a confined space or cleaning the car. It would light up the area under the car seats for example.

It looks like the light is battery operated as the hose on the model shown in the video doesn't look like a power hose. I think there will be a model with an electric head, certainly for the U.S. market. I hope they offer it in the UK too because there are no current Miele models with power heads available in the UK.

This German website is showing no less than 11 different model numbers for the S8 series and includes one model with the SEB 236 powerhead and one with the SEB 217 head. I doubt the U.S. and U.K. will get such a big range.

New Miele S8

I like the light on the handle. I guess that is to function like the light on the front of an upright. I wonder what the function of the side lights are on the lower side of the canister? Also wonder if they have increased the length of the hose or power cord?
Looks like they still have the smallish tools.
I really like the color but not sure about the 3 wheels dolly system. You would have to try it and see if it catches on door sills. I also wonder what happens when you drop the hose handle with the light in the end? I have always been very careful with the hose handle on my Electrolux 8000 which has lighted controls on the hose end.
I think it is a very up scale looking machine and much more appealing to me than the Dyson but that is JUST a personal choice in design.
I would imagine they will offer an electric power nozzle for the U.S. market too.

You may be correct about the light, as the video looks like it is not an electric power nozzle. I would hope they didn't just stick a battery operated light on the end of the hose! If that is so, we could just duck tape a flashlight to the end of any vacuum hose. That seems cheap to me and would take away the high end feel to the machine.
Just have to wait and see when it appears on the web site. Always fun checking out new machines and thanks for adding the thread.

New Miele s8

Here is some more info I found on the net about Miele S8:
(1) has velvet bumper around the machine
(2) light on the lower side is used to find the "park" position for the non-power wand and floor tool
(3) has non electric turbo hand tool
No information about an electric power brush that I could find at this time. available.

Miele S8

Josh,
I agree with you. The smallish attachments don't bother me either. I would never use them anyway under that plastic lid. I use the fuller brush and dusting brush the most along with the power nozzle.
It will be fun to see the new machines. I sure hope they offer a longer hose and power cord on these machines as I am sure they will be expensive.

The floor head featured in the video is the same AirTeq floor head that's on my S6 Ecoline. Goes under product code of STB 650. Miele may well have made it lighter for the new S8. I like the design of the S8 but not sure about the lights at the bottom - its like the car mirror guide lights to let you see yourself to your door if you have a driveway close to your front door.

Here's some more details I've found on the S8 translated from a Polish website. The translation is a bit odd in places but you'll get the general idea.

LED lighting is installed in two places: at the Comfort grip to hold the pipe, so that is illuminated is vacuum cleaned surface, and in the "chassis" vacuum, giving a glow when vacuuming. Illuminated Park System makes the lights go out until 30 seconds after disconnecting the appliance from the mains. Silence Plus System is designed to provide quiet engine and chassis system DynamicDrive through which integrated with dampers wheels on the soft tires on the floor, overcome inequalities. Automatic suction power switch is located so that you can handle it foot without the need to bend down every time. In addition, Uniq equipped with a protective strip of material surrounding the velvetowego vacuum that acts as a shock absorber that protects walls and furniture.

Well the SBD 650 doesn't have any roller brushes. I've been doing my own investigations. The models weigh 5kg.

Here are some more stock photos to whet your appetites! I notice that it has a pretty similar hose connection to the S6 - Miele may have done this to cost cut but they've got rid of the additional external tool holder that could well have given this machine a lot more possibility to add any additional cleaning tools on other than the set of 3 you get under the flap. Looks like they haven't improved on the top exhaust filter outlet.

Here's the microsite (in German) www.miele.at/ex/microsite/at/S8/...

Pros: New ultra modern design with a few fancy design features and lightweight factor which I like the idea of.

Cons: Germany are releasing model per model per need yet again. Already, Miele claim this machine has 11 metres radius - 1 more than the current S5 that has 10 metres radius. Still not enough power cable length then.

Sneek preview...

I had the opportunity a couple of weeks ago to see this new model in person at a dinner meeting with our Miele reps. It's truly a gorgeous vacuum. They had it paired with the TOL 236? power nozzle. The color is really striking, and the lights are an added feature for glitz and glamour.

"Glitz & Glamour"

for sure. As luck would have it, just when we recently got a new S5, a new model appears. LOL!

Sex appeal aside, has Miele caught on to the size thing? 10 or 15 more feet of cord and a longer hose would be a compelling story from a meaningful feature, everyday functionality perspective?

As usual they are building "new" machines and kitting it out with selective new fancy, glitzy features and using existing components like the Tri-scopic miele suction tube, existing smaller cleaning tools (still no where on board to put a small turbo brush, crucial for pet buyers and would have been better to offer the additional flexible tool storer and nib on the body of the hose for owners to add additional tools as well as fall back on the ones supplied under the lid.

Thing is, I don't think they have "caught on" to the size of hose and power cord length. They're more or less pushing the buyer to consider either the heavy add on extension flex hose attachment for the canisters for added stretch or banking on an S7 upright purchase; such is the problem that exists if (outside the U.S) in the U.K you then have an either or approach with the only upright that they sell that swivels, like a canister vac - but takes up more space and isn't as compact as a canister commands..

Whilst there are some nice parts to the design, I can't help but feel Miele have looked to Bosch for inspiration, especially in the way the handle at the front sweeps upwards, lending a closer "grab" to design aspect.

I was thinking the same thing, thanks for bringing that up. S8 looks similar to a Bosch without a doubt.

The Kenmore

Intuition canister per the website is described as having a:

"Light on the wand illuminates dark areas to help you see what needs cleaning and to avoid items that you don’t want to vacuum up". Also states it has an 8 foot hose & 26 foot cord.

New Miele S8

Thanks everyone for all the input on the new S8! I LOVE the color and the glitzy lights but I am not seeing changes in the areas that so many Miele owners say they do not care for in actural use.
I was looking for a new longer hose and electric cord, new full size attachments and maybe a new power nozzle. I keep hearing complaints about the bags smelling after a short time even with the hepa and charcoal filters in place.
I sure like the color and lights. Also wish they would make the hose in a color to match the machine. The standard grey hose looks like a replacement that didn't match the machine. It just seems to take away the premium look of the machine.
It will be exciting to see it in person when it arrives.

My thoughts mirror yours William - and I also think Miele will be applying that Velvet strip only to the highest model like they did with the S6 Velvet model. Nothing stopping you from putting your own strip on I guess or ordering the part if it ever becomes available.

New Mieel S8

Am I correct so far:

They did not increase the hose or electric cord length?
They should be offering it with an electric power nozzle and they did not update the tool size to be a regular full size?
There will be no on board tool storage for the fuller brush used for hard floor surface cleaning?
I wonder what the price will be with electric power nozzle in the U. S. market?

RS- I saw the red velvet covered machine at a Miele dealers. That did just not appeal to me. I think of a vacuum as shiney with bright chrome accents. That is only a personal choice. Just have to wait and see how this velvet bumper and attachment storage bin looks in person.

Well speaking as a collector who at times has to polish up the bodies because the machines get used, the velvet covered body is a great idea - it would minimise scrapes and bashes to the body. Miele have simply just taken the idea and put it on the central bumper that goes around the whole machine of the new S8 but the red model stock photo I supplied here looks like the velvet bumper hasnt been given - and the red machine is one of the more basic S8 models.

When I looked at the microsite, as usual Miele never give away their actual cord length but I know from experience with my S5211 that the cord measures out to be 6.5 metres and Miele claim that it has a 10 metre radius - the new S8 has an 11 metre radius and one can speculate then that the model won't have anything close to 9metres of cord, but rather possibly 7.5 metres or 8 metres of cord.

I think the S8 will eventually be offered with an electric head. Certainly the top of the range S8930 looks like it has one of the PN's with the headlight. SEB236.

Have you seen what I can with my Sebo? lol. There I was vacuuming my room when inspiration came to me following all the recent expectations and features of the Miele S8 UniQ. I was really delighted to find that my 1980's ribbed torch could clip and lock into the K series tool clip on the K series tubing that I'm using with my D2. Now I have a "headlight" spread of light whenever I'm Sebo'ing!

S8 Uniq

does the S8 Uniq have the hose problem of the Blue Moon S658? The Moon had a circuit board problem and had to replaced every coupld of years. It just turns shuts down. Love it but a new hose cost $165. Does anyone know if this has been solved with the new S8?

The hose issues that occurred with the Silver Moon, Red Velvet and Blue Moon were resolved in subsequent models. Those models being S5980/81 and S8990 (UniQ).
