I was painting today at a funeral home and the vacuum of choice was a yellow, commercial Eureka. It did not seem to be very loud, just the familiar sound and hum.
My question is, are commercial vacuums generally louder or quieter than household vacuums?

They can be loud or quiet, depends on who makes them and whatever donor machine has been built up.

My Victor Europa 271 (also known as a Clarke 500, and some other brand names) is quieter than a Dyson, or any other modern domestic vac, but my Sanitaires are pretty noisy, especially on wood flooring (as in wood under the carpeting, not vacuuming wood directly cos that'd just be silly), it just depends on the type of vac and what surfaces you're cleaning...

I haven't used any other commercial vacs though, the ones I have are powerful enough for me... :P
