LOVE IT!! What a beauty! Congrats! That is definatly my favorite Electrolux of all time. Plus yours is one of the first because of the PN plug on the hose.
I understand this hose was discontinued shortly after the first few months of the Golden J production, and they went with the pistol grip hose with the male end inside the PN sheath, doing away with the upper PN cord, which was all left over from the 1205 days.
So, any Golden J with the PN connector at the top of the hose handle, like yours, has to be one of the very first Golden Js.
My only gripe with this machine is the PN2 itself. I always found it awkward to have the elbow right in the middle of the PN. And,as with the PN1, there are no side openings on the rug plate to vacuum up against the wall boards or tight corners or spaces. And those original braided hoses were short and stiff, not very user friendly.

Now, pair up a Golden J, or Super J,like yours, with a new hose, and PN 5 or 6,and a new bag,,and youve got an excellent vacuum!

PN2..

I for one, think the pn2 was the best power nozzle ever, the three rollers on the bottom seem to make it push easier ,and it seems to me, to clean better than the pn4..

Beautiful

Congratulations!  That's a prize winner by any measure.  Except for the lack of edge cleaning, I think the PN2 performs very well on low to medium pile carpeting.  It's also much kinder to hand-knotted rugs than newer powernozzles with more aggressive bristles.

They're definitely the snazziest looking Elux.. all that glitters LOL

Be careful with the plastic handle on the machine etc.. keep well away from friends,, they are somewhat brittle.

Don't Worry....

....About those stickers on the machine and the PN. They're very durable. I just bought a PN-2 to use with my 1205, and it had a damaged sticker on it - removing it was MURDER. I don't know how it got damaged in the first place.

I second Pete about the handle. Not the sturdiest, and very HTF. Be glad yours is in nice shape. The trick to keeping Lux handles unbroken is to find the balance point of the machine, and always grasp the handle there. The balance point will be somewhere close to the middle of the handle. Picking up a Lux by grabbing the handle at one end or the other can break the handle - 1205s will do this. It's just a matter of putting too much stress on the handle when you pick it up wrong.

50th Decals.......

.......are the best thought out adhesion I have ever seen. Nice that Electrolux not only put a thick clear top layer over but used such a strong adhesive to stand up over time for a quality lasting Electrolux milestone.

I'll Vouch for That!

The damaged sticker I wanted to remove from my PN-2 was on there but GOOD. I do not, for the life of me, see how half of it got damaged.

When my vacuum guy said he'd finally found a PN-2 for me and pulled it out to show me, my heart sank, because I could see the sticker, and I don't believe in removing stuff like that. If the sticker had been intact, I would have left the PN-2 for a Golden Jubilee restorer.

But being damaged, I figured it wasn't going to help anyone with a Golden Jubilee, so I got it and worked on the rest of the sticker. And worked on the rest of the sticker. And WORKED on the rest of the sticker!

I've never seen anything self-adhesive so strongly stuck in my life.

P.S.: Tyler, one of the things I really admire about your restorations is your attention to "freshness." A vac that's clean inside and out is a pleasure to use, as you and I know. I have never, for the life of me, understood why so many people neglect their vacs to the point they're the dirtiest thing in the house....

Although I'm grateful they do - because they eventually give it to a thrift store, and that's when I get another expensive vac for next to nothing! :-)

Golden J trivia

Very nice Golden J and rare as it was a 1 year model.50th decal--I have seen a bulliten from Elux to branches stating that the decal was available as a service order item if salesman made twin sale(vac and B-8)and wanted to put decal on B-8 hood.Never saw this done but a local
Elux office had a decal placed on filing cabinet drawer.PN-2--This had the only bearing adjustable for wear with new & used position similar to modern Oreck.Always make sure they are in same position. There was a problem that required a repair kit.In some cases if cord was loose where it plugged in with time and vibration it could short out in the same manner of a Heritage cord. The fix was 2 clips at sides of rectangular opening and a hold down from side to side.you will see a few with this in place.50th Jubilee--I have seen pictures at a branch of traveling historic Elux display from home office & factory in CT.Sort of a bread van type truck with early cleaning machines.Seemed to be nonelectric with no mention of other brands of electric vacs.Dont know where or how long it may nave been around.Anyone know more?

My PN-2's Housing

Has the hold-down clip for the PN cord. Didn't know it was a service item, though - I thought it was standard issue for PN-2s when new.

For those who don't know what this little item was, here's a pic. The clip held the PN cord firmly in place in its socket; there was no way for the cord to work loose if the clip was installed:

PN2 receptacles vary too. ( 3 prong)

Some have a middle prong ground wire:

Nice Golden J there, I wish Electrolux kept making that style hose w/metal curved wand & outlet at end of handle instead of pistol grip.

The receptacle with the ground wire on it was for use with the CB as, being commercial, it all was grounded.

Doug:

This is what I enjoy so much about this group - these little mysteries are eventually explained. The ground wire prong being for the CB makes perfect sense - in fact, so much sense I'm ashamed it never occurred to me before.

Now I know what to look out for when buying PN-2s.

Just an extra bit of trivia. There was a reason for the colour of the hoses. White was a neutral colour but, as the model L was still being produced in blue at the time the Golden J was out the gold and blue stripes in the hose reflected both machines (The same type of power hose but with different machine end connections was used with both). When the Super J came out and the L was changed to gold the hose changed to yellow.

Gold on Gold

In the lower 50, I was selling Electrolux through the tribulation and evolution of the 1205 power hose and wand designs and when the Jubilee was introduced I swooned.  The 50th sticker models, Powernozzle 2 and direct connect electric hose and wand were miraculous, the color and design flawless and the power and suction a notable improvement.  The Jubilee is my favorite square body model.  In the states the model L was painted gold but it looked cheap and didn't have the reflective gleam the blue model L of the 1205 era had.  Brad, I'm glad you're finding so many of your personal favorites.  I hope you rethink your decision to stay with the club because you are providing lively threads of great interest.

Heck yeah you should stay Brad !

We are all invaluable with experience and ideas and even when it seems a bit slow or maybe not as appreciated sometimes, there is always going to be someone else out there that can see that there are people that love vacuums as a hobby and interest and will make them realize it is ok to have this interest. If it's just a picture or a small comment, it could make a difference to someone else, especially somebody young and needing something to look to. :)

Golden Jubilee Plaque

I recently acquired a Golden Jubilee plaque. It came with an Electrolux Model XII and the salesman's carrying display "board" and accessories.
Does anyone have any information on these plaques?

Thank you!
