Check this out! (Be patient, it'll make sense eventually)

Just turn the volume off--the audio track that goes with the video has nothing to do with the actual video--as the guy who posted the clip notes in the comments--there was no audio with the footage so he just posted whatever.

Awesome indeed!

Not every day you get to see something like this.

Fred, that was really neat, thanks for sharing it. I wonder just how popular these were and when Hoover stopped making them?

Because here he is in his own version of this video. Demonstrating the fabulous Hoover Floor Washer. No more scrub brushes, buckets and dirty rags! Notice Tania's furry slippers.

Did the production of the Floor Wshr and FAM ever overlap? Did the FAM pick up where the Flr Wshr left off?

After you tell us more about that great floorwasher, tell us something about those fabulous turquoise appliances sometime.

Awesome Indeed

Fred S. Thanks for sharing. Does it work as good as it appears to and are these floor washers hard to find, or do they make a newer version?

Fred N. How did I miss this floor washer when I was at your home? I'm assuming the picture you posted was taken prior to the gathering in June.

Mike, I do remember seeing the Floor Washers that Fred has but for some reason, we didn't get around to playing with it. I, like you also wonder if it does as good of a job as the picture shows. We will certainly have to give it a try the next time we are there. I do remember when these came out and "begging" my mom to get one. Of course we never did.LOL

Thanks for the footage Fred. I have to laugh at her having lunch all dressed up then ever so carefully spilling the milk. Then she just had to get the Floorwasher out! It would have been easier to not pound her fist and just get a rag and wipe it up!!!

The Floorwasher came out in 1959 in yellow and black. I am not sure when this model, 3500, ended production. The 3510 which was the same machine but in blue and white came out in 1961 and was replaced by the 3600 Floor A Matic in 1967. The engineer who helped develope it said, according to his son, that this machine was Hoover's Edsel. I asked his son who has worked at Hoover for 30+ years what the worst machine Hoover ever made was and he replied the 3500 Floor Washer. He still has a bad taste in his mouth for it since his father took such grief for designing it I guess. I think that they work great and are well engineered. This would be the grandfather to today's FloorMate. I am just guessing here, but I do not think that the FAM ever overlapped with the Floor Washer since they were so different.

I've heard from a couple of people that the Floor washer was a great machine and did its job very well, and easier to use than the FAM.
I was present at the demo with little Fred and use the Floor washer as well, it seemed to work well and was quiet too!

That floor in Ida's Home for Wayward Vintage Appliances was spotless!
