I acquired a most unusual and what I believe to be an all-original model 105 about 12 years ago on ebay. This is an early machine (serial #615270 on the original factory installed name-plate which bears a final patent date on it of April 6, 1920). It differs from any other 105 I've seen in that it is a 32 volt direct current machine equipped with a Robbins and Myers motor, probably because Hoover didn't build 32 volt motors for farm current. The handle is more like a 102's in that there is no clip for a cord-spool/spring assembly on the handle, and no bores for any either. The spring on the cord is at the switch base only, and is on the right hand side of the machine as you stand behind it, like other (102 and earlier) R&M equipped Hoovers. The dustbag is the original beige sateen single loop bag screened with "The Hoover" on both the right and left sides and attaches to the handle bag-slide with a hook assembly. The bag has small wear holes near the bag-ring, but is in rather fine condition for a 92 year old specimen. When I acquired this machine, I did replace the dry-rotted original cord so that I could test it (with many dry cells wired in series) and installed an original style wood-bearing rebristled Hoover brush-roll as the machine came with none when I got it. It runs quietly and well, and appears to have had minimal use. The wheels are not well worn, the casting is very clean and shows no evidence of ever having been polished, and the machine has its original leather guard in very good condition. The motor has the original switch as well.
