I spotted this article in the Metro on Friday and did a bit of searching to find it online too. Opinions? How accurate is it? We've all seen "worlds oldest" claims before, but is this spot on?

oldest vacuum?

There would be older nonelectrics, but for an electric vacuum this is close to the beginnings. This article, seen here twice,is good for average newspaper reader but for collectors would any collectors in England be in a convenient location to visit in person and show more such as motor, attachments, bag compartment, etc?

I didn't realise the Hoover Senior was available in 1929.... :P

Hmm....he looks remarkably young for 53, but that could be jealously on my part. I can't believe he's been allowed to bring that relic into the house though. My own wife would have had a turn.

If I recall correctly this 1906 BVC (H C Booths original portable machines) from 1906 is in a museum in England too.

Hmm, well the BVC in the museum is very interesting! As is the Sturtevant in the newspaper article....certainly a very simple design.

I recall a couple of years ago seeing on the Internet that Regina made a wooden canister vacuum with a GE motor, & that was dated around 1905-1906.
