Well, maybe not Destroyed, I can Fix it, but that's not the Point, because I Paid A LOT of Money for this Vacuum, A LOT, TOO MUCH, but it is the very same Model Kenmore Twin Fan my Grandma Gockel had, it's a Model 3040, my Grandma's was just Beige though, I like the Orange much better myself and she kept hers Downstairs, used it Daily, while Upstairs she had first a Brandywine Eureka Upright, then a Hoover Elite, but I always wanted the Kenmore and when she Died in 2004, my Dad's Family knowing I wanted it, TRASHED it and EVERYTHING else I was supposed to get, so when I saw this Orange Kenmore, no matter what, I HAD TO HAVE IT and did Win it of course, from the SAME Lady I Bought my Singer Golden POWERmaster from, not to mention, as most of you know, I ADORE Twin Fans; however, I didn't expect this Orange Kenmore to come to me seriously DAMAGED. :-( Well, many of you who have seen my Post about my Golden POWERmaster, know that I did have A LOT of ISSUES with the Seller Joan and how she Packed and Shipped it, like Damaging the Handle Grip and forgetting to Pack some Parts, but in the end, all was well, so I Bought this from Joan with Bill Me Later and even though I did in fact give her my usual DETAILED Instructions on how to Pack this Kenmore, she once again IGNORED them and this is how my Orange Kenmore was Delivered by UPS to me, OH, but I should mention also, that it was LAST Month when I Won this Kenmore and it was just this Week that Joan decided to have it Packed and Shipped to me with NO UPS Tracking #. :-( Anyway, here is the first of a few Pictures of how it was Packed and Delivered-

Yes, the Box came OPEN and TORN like that, but not with my Cat Misty...

LOOK!!

Other then this Newspaper, as you can see, there is NOTHING in the Box to Protect it, so needless to say, the Handle is of course BENT, the Vacuum will only Turn On if you Wiggle the Handle and even then, it still Shuts Off, so I'm sure the Switch is Damaged, PLUS, there is a BIG Hole underneath the Kenmore and the Front Wheels are Broken Off and MISSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

HOLE!!

This is the Hole that was right underneath the Front Wheels, which were BROKEN OFF and now MISSING!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(

I'm sure if I examine my Kenmore a bit more, I'll find more Damage. :-(

Well...

I sent SEVERAL Messages to the Seller, Joan, but haven't heard anything back yet, I am trying to be NICE about it, because she is an OLD Lady, but this is RIDICULOUS, so maybe I should just get NASTY and DEMAND my Money back or I'll REVERSE my Payment to her, I dunno, I HATE ebay. :-(

I thought I could Open a Claim with ebay, Jason told me about it on the Phone, BUT, ebay won't let me do any Claims with them, because I used Bill Me Later, so I really don't know what to do, other then Call Bill Me Later on Monday and have the Payment Reversed, since they did Pay for the Kenmore for me after all, but I just don't know what else to do and you know, this is gonna be the LAST time I Buy another Vacuum off ebay, I'll get them from other Collecters here and maybe Search around for them like Dave from Canada does you know... :-(

The switch:

The switch should be a quite easy fix. If you have to wiggle the handle for it to turn on for a second, its probably the same thing happened to me a few months ago. What I did was flip it upside down to remove the bottom plate covering the brush roll assembly and belt, and then behind the two back metal latches that hold the bottom plate on there should be 2 screws, one on each side. Unscrew those and then flip it over. The top hood will come off. Okay, now with the upright facing you, look down on the left side beside the handle. Release the handle with the handle release, and then pull it back up making sure that the bottom left side of the handle is coming in contact, and holding down the black switch button as shown in the picture. If not, kind of slide the handle over to whatever side it needs to move over to so that it holds that button down. Now, being careful that it doesn't slide back, put the hood back on and flip it over. Put the 2 screws back in that you removed earlier, and put the bottom plate back on. If this doesn't work, chances are your switch is broken. I do not have any extra right now that I could send you either.... If this is the case, maybe you could see if another collector has one.
I hope this helps!
Daniel :-)

Normally, I would Appreciate your Post and Pictures, but right now, I am ANNOYED by them and I know you are just a Kid and were trying to Help, but this whole Situation has me PISSED right now, because I Paid well over $100.00 for this Kenmore and well, look what I ended up getting you know. :-(

In case you didn't know Daniel, I am A LOT Older then you, so I Grew Up in the 80's SURROUNDED by these Machines, SURROUNDED literally, lol and now have a HUGE Collection of Twin Fans, have nearly EVERY Name of Twin Fan Upright, EXCEPT for my Holy Grail Canadian Lewyt, so believe me, I know how to Fix these, know EVERYTHING about them, know more about them then even the Vac Shops and other Collectors do, plus have LOTS of Spare Singer Twin Fan Parts, not to mention, I am an ASE Certified Auto Mechanic, so I already know how to Fix the Switch and Rebuild this Kenmore from the ground up, not a problem, but you know, the whole Point of this Thread is, the fact that I Paid nearly $115.00 for this Kenmore, one of my Dream Machines, I gave the Seller SPECIFIC DETAILED Instructions on how I wanted it Packed and all, she waited WEEKS to FINALLY Ship it and I get it like this you know, so that's what I need Help with here, on how to get my Money back, other then having Bill Me Later Reverse the Payment to her. I just REFUSE to let the Seller keep the Money for this BS here you know and I'm sure if it was you Daniel, you'd feel the same, so I Apologize to you and anyone who I may sound Rude to, but I'm BEYOND PISSED right now. :-(

By the time I'm through, Joan won't be Selling on ebay anymore, she has no right to if she's gonna be like this and all. :-(

I understand! Not a problem at all, I clearly wasn't aware about your twin-fan collection! I'd love to see some pictures some day :) Hopefully you can get all of your money back without any troubles, because that was clearly horrible how they sent that. Not to mention that some of the parts were even missing. Ive never had this problem with ebay before, so I can't really help you on getting the money back, other than what you said before, about calling Bill Me Later, so that you can try and reverse the charge. That is just ridiculous, and it boggles my mind how people listen sometimes. I would definitely contact the seller again as well, and keep sending emails until you hear back from her.
Hope everything goes well,
Daniel

Again, I Apologize, I'm just so UPSET, you have NO idea how PISSED I really am, I mean, this is way REDICULOUS, but I Appreciate your Help and Post!! :-) Also, yes, I will Post Pictures of my Twin Fans for you sometime, but they all need Cleaned up a bit first, plus I'm waiting on an Original Lens for my Golden POWERmaster, I have to Rebuild my Self-Propelled Kenmore and of course Fix this one here you know, but you'll get Pictures... ;-)

Anyway, eventually I'm sorry to say, you'll prolly have a situation like this with ebay yourself I'm sorry to say, it is ebay after all, so be CAREFUL my young Friend... ;-)

Anyway, keep checking back here, because I am going to Post Pictures later of ALL Damge to the Kenmore itself, which is A LOT!!

So far I'm lucky this hasn't happened to me yet; but when I moved, my Eureka Dial-A-Nap's handle broke in half! That occured because furniture 'impacted' the vac.

Thanks, but I was Talking to the other Daniel above, about me being Older and all... ;-)

But here's the Problem, because I used Bill Me Later, I CAN NOT Open a Case with ebay, so I dunno and I'm not sure if I can even with Paypal, but if I can Open a Case with Paypal, they'll prolly want me to send my Kenmore back to Joan, which I WILL NOT DO EVER, this Kenmore is MINE now you know and as you and everyone else knows, it's ALL her FAULT here with that HORRIBLE Packing and everything, so no matter what, she NEEDS to AT LEAST Refund me the Cost of the Vacuum itself you know. :-(

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even after SCREWING me over here and IGNORING my Messages, Joan has the NERVE to List MORE Vacuums on ebay Today, one of which is a Hoover Convertible 593, I have TWO of those, plus she's Listed several other Vintage Vacuums and I am literally SICK TO MY STOMACH about it, so I just hope none of you are Stupid enough to Bid on any Vacuums from her, because I GUARANTEE, that she will do the same to the rest of you, Joan doesn't CARE and I TRULY believe that she is doing this on PURPOSE. :-(

THANK YOU kenkart Hans!!

THANKS for the Pictures and I'm so sorry about your Lux, but she looks PERFECT now and like I said, I can Fix my Kenmore, I already Fixed the Bent Handle and pulled Wheels off one of my Junk Singer's, to Install on it, so it's getting there and I will Post Pics of all the Damage later on, but right now, I am sending NUMEROUS Messages to Joan, because I WILL 100% GET MY MONEY BACK, I WILL NOT STOP UNTIL SHE GIVES ME A FULL REFUND, SHE OWES ME!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, did you know she kinda Screwed me with my Golden POWERmaster as well, Jason and a few others know ALL about that. :-(

I'm sorry your cleaner was damaged in shipping. It's really frustrating when sellers do that, on the rare occasion I sell something on eBay I tend to go way overboard on packing because you never know when UPS will decide to run something over with a truck.

I hate to say this, but I doubt you will be able to get both a full refund and keep the vacuum cleaner. I too have gotten damaged goods from eBay before, the past two Sunbeam Mixmasters I bought were shipped carelessly and the bakelite speed control knobs were broken. Your best bet is probably to see if the seller will give you a partial refund based on the damage/cost of getting parts to repair it. If eBay or bill me later gets involved, most likely they will offer a refund if you ship the item back to the seller.

Also, if you've already done this sorry for suggesting it again, but sending pictures of the damage to the seller might help. I had to do that a few months ago when trying to buy a glass mixing bowl (the first two I bought came to me as boxes full of packing peanuts and broken glass - sending the seller pictures of the damage worked, and neither of them wanted me to ship the broken glass back to them).

THANKS, I'm real GLAD you both like my oldest and first Cat, Misty, but she is just one of 5 Kitties I have, plus, a T-Rex Sized Australian Cattle Dog... ;-)

Anyway, I sent TWO MORE MESSAGES on ebay to Joan Hilbert and AGAIN, she is not Responding back. :-( This is REDICULOUS and you know, on her ebay Profile she even says- If you have a legitimate complaint, I will refund full purchase price plus shipping.

But, as you all know, she isn't doing that for me. :-( I'd also rather not try going through Paypal for this, because as we all know, Paypal is a JOKE and prolly won't help; however, I did Speak to my Lawyer and as a last Resort, he said he will Call her and Demand she Refund my Money, or we'll take her to Court, so I'm pretty damn confident that I'll get my Money back... ;-) And no, like I said, I will NEVER send this Kenmore back to her, it's MINE now and is going to be Fixed and Restored to LIKE NEW, you'll all see, I'll Post Pics when I'm Finished, but I WILL get my Money back!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

BTW, there were NO Packing Peanuts or ANYTHING, other then that little bit of Newspaper in a PAPER THIN Box and yes, I keep finding more and MORE Damage to my RARE AS HELL Orange Kenmore here. :-(

I Read your Post and don't understand why you Removed it, because it was fine and all?

Anyway, you Guys should see how Joan Packed the Singer Golden POWERmaster I Bought from her in December and although I had SEVERAL ISSUES with her regarding that Vacuum as well, she found and sent the missing Parts and things were OK; however, after looking CLOSELY at my Golden POWERmaster Today, I noticed that it also has Shipping Damage, a BENT Handle I never noticed before, slightly Bent, but Bent nonetheless, so her POOR Packing got my TWICE it seems. :-(

had a problem with Paypal or ebay with refunds for damaged/unshipped items. They are very nice to work with and I always receive a refund . All I do is file a claim and they handle everything and within a few days the money is back in my account . I love ebay and paypal and live in the USA here in NJ .

Shipping vintage vacuum cleaners on eBay has to be done properly. They are often long and ungainly and have specific packaging requirements. Many casual eBay sellers do not realize this truism and the result is a broken item. I've sold vacuum cleaners on eBay previously, but it would be a rare machine that I'd sell there now. The fee structure is discouraging, especially since they started subjecting monies remitted for shipping to a fee, and especially with heavier objects that therefore incur a greater fee. When I was doing it, packing an upright vacuum cleaner properly for shipping typically involved my making a custom-fabricated container and dunnage material. This all involved time and materials for which I sought no compensation.

Entities in the US that provide shipping services are basically set up to handle things by automated means in bulk. They often do not do well with poorly packed items or those that are a non-standard size (like long and skinny). No vacuum cleaner should ever be sent in a single-wall cardboard box; when I've shipped vacs, they've always been at least double-boxed. Even a brand new machine in its original packaging may not survive singly in the mail or the UPS system; they are shipped to stores packed with like items, all strapped together on a shipping pallet. Their original packing isn't intended for them to be dumped loose into an automated parcel handling system.

MoparHemiPower, the following isn't intended as a criticism. You had problems with this seller the first time around. In my own case, no matter how enticing her subsequent offerings might've been, I would not want to even chance a second hosing from her. Live and learn; your first experience with her is probably an example of how she conducts business routinely.

I'm sorry I cannot give any insight into withholding funds from her, as I've no experience with the pay later policies. What you received from the seller was "significantly not as described" (SNAD). It is the responsibility of the seller to convey the purchased item to the buyer in the condition originally described/shown in the listing. When you get a beat-up, broken item that was shown as intact in the listing, the item is SNAD. This is the basis for refund or non-payment, including original shipping costs. Usually, the buyer is responsible for returning the item (including return shipping costs) to the seller to get the refund. Using a shipping means with a tracking number enables PayPal to see when the item is received back by the seller, then they issue the refund.

Shouldn't upright vacuums be shipped Disassebled if possible? The few I have gotten shipped to me-used or new-were shipped disassembled.even if its removing the handle bar from the base part.Note that Kirbys are delivored disassembled. The packing job on that poor machine in the first picture is pretty lame.

So I found....

A very similar one like the one that James has. But with a few odd differences. Mine has the on off in the top of the hood. Second off, mine bag does not have the holes punched in a flower pattern, and lastly and most odd...the cord on mine comes out the very top of the handle. Weird huh?

Anyone ever see this rather odd variation? I does appear to be in my 1977 Sears Catalog for all of $37.00.
