Hi folks,

First time posting on this forum. I have a Kirby Sanitronic 7 that I am in process of overhauling/restoring. It worked great before I got it and it is looking good right now and the motor runs excellent after replacing the brushes and bearings.

Anyway, I found that the tan colored bag is no longer available and that Kirby only makes a black replacement bag. I also found out they only offer a black power cord. But, I can still get the original tan wheels and tan bumpers.

It just seems odd that tan, red, blue or green wouldn't have been the most common colors anyway and with that why black? Apparently there is still engough demand for parts for these older vacs for Kirby to continue to still offer them so I'm just wondering what the savings really is here by only offering them in black?

I like the older machines like the D80 and earlier because of their size. I think the new Sentria and G series are just too darn big for my house regardless of nozzle size on the front. True, I could get a Heritage or Legend with the smaller rug nozzles, but I've heard that black was the only color for replacement parts for those now too.

I don't get why they only offer some parts in black and then others, like the wheels, bumpers in original colors?

Done with my rant and now getting back to work on the Sanitronic 7! :)

I just updated my profile, my email address should be there now? I clicked on the link in the activate account email when I joined this site. Not too sure whats going on with that.

Thanks for attempting to send some info though. Would come in handy for this project.

It's simple really, they don't have to make several separate lots of virtually identical parts, store them in separate inventories and have separate part numbers, they just make one lot in black and discontinue the coloured ones, thus they save money and try to encourage end-users to ditch their old models and buy a brand new one (well, possibly brand new, some disreputable kirby dealers like selling used models as new)...

Your best bet is to scour ebay for used and NOS items, there's plenty to be had, but you have to be quick, cos when they're gone, that's it... :\
