I was given this Dyson today, it is probably the dirtiest vacuum that I have ever dealt with. Just take a look at before pictures.

No older than this vacuum is, it just ticks me off that no one can take care of it, especially as expensive as they are.

I was about to say that it looks a bit dusty...

...then I saw Pic #2... and screamed!

Heaven only knows the state of the carpets it was used upon. Is it particularly aggressive on carpet?

This Looks Like:

The Dyson that turned up in our local Goodwill.

When it showed up, they put a big sign on it saying, "NOT FOR SALE," and the staffers were proudly pushing it around.

Within a few days, the sign was gone and it was priced at $15. I found out later that the staff didn't appreciate the job of cleaning it out.

I think those strings in the brushroll of the one in the pics are carpet backing. It looks to me as if the vac was used on carpet that had a frayed edge somewhere.

Holy Schnikes Ben, how did you clean it up so nice?  Were you at it all day?  That brush roll looked like it had telephone wire wrapped around it.  Impressive!

It didn't take long, just when I get started I don't want to quit.

I posted it on the ebay modern thread.

At least you cleaned it thoroughly. To think what that thing has been through looking at the before....& the after you would never know it! It makes me nervous buying on Ebay sometimes when the seller says it has been cleaned thoroughly. I always wonder if they just shined the outside and brush roll or cleaned the guts inside & out. I love that term "AirMuscle"

Nice! I have been drooling over this model evertime I am at Target. I wonder how it perfoms compared to my DC14. I would suspect with the better brushroll & Airmuscle feature it must clean very well.

The rollerbrush is a definate improvement,  but having the height adjustment also improves the cleaning of this vacuum.
