Hey Guys.
I'm still slowly working on cleaning out my basement. These are the next machines to go. I was planning on just taking the cords and switches off them and trashing the rest but I thought I'd post this here first. If anyone wants any parts off these machines please let me know within the week. I'll take them off - you just pay what ever the mail cost is. Better than just putting them in the garbage. Hopefully someone needs pieces to fix their own. IF you do please email me at mjdkas@hotmail.com Doug First Picture: Singer - Dead Regina House Keeper - no brush or bottom plate, no cord so no clue if it runs Regina House Keeper Plus - no brush, bottom plate or handle, runs but motor wines Regina - no brush or plate, not running Kenmore Self Propelled - Bag shot, no brush, runs but sounds dry |

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this thread!
Now I'm really annoyed I don't have the money to buy them all from you! This is going off topic a bit, but I was wondering what the point of a Self Propelled Vacuum Cleaner was ? I've got a Self Propelled Lawn Mower, but that is necessary, as a Lawn Mower has an engine in it and weighs quite a lot, but a Vacuum Cleaner doesn't weigh that much! |

Jamie,
The self-propulsion feature on some upright vacuum cleaners is quite useful in many situations. Firstly, it seems that in North America we have a larger proportion of homes with larger rooms than is usually found in Europe. So you often have homes with large tracts of broadloom - though the current trend is more toward hard-wood floors. It helps even the strongest of vac-users to use a self-propelled cleaner because it makes it easier and less tiresome to vacuum large carpeted rooms. This difference in house size is also the reason North Americans can buy vacs that have wider cleaning heads - like Eureka's "Wide Track" uprights, or even the Hoover Tempo Widepath with the 14" cleaning head. As a Canadian, I am always intrigued by the narrow heads on so many European upright vacs. The self-propulsion feature is also very useful for seniors and those who are "differently-abled" - it makes pushing a 23-pound full size upright less of a struggle. Though it seems that many experts have preferred Eureka's rear-wheel self-propulsion system, I only have personal experience with the highly-rated Hoover Self-Propelled WindTunnel Ultra. It was a great vac to clean my parents' large carpeted living room because the vac practically drove itself!! I could even manoeuver the vac with only a few fingers on the handle! Wow, Jamie - you may be correct about the heavier North American uprights....or maybe European guys are stronger!!! :-)
I forgot - I have also heard that our wall-to-wall carpeting in Canada/USA has a tendency to have deeper pile, so a self-propelled vac helps clean thicker broadloom as well. Also, the upright concept was invented in the USA, whereas the canister concept was invented in Europe, so there may be more deeper carpeting on the market here simply due to the history of vac development here. Indeed, Europe has some very nifty lightweight uprights like the Sebo Felis and the Vorwerk....love the Felix!!! Have a good night my friend!!! :-) EPB |
