I thought it might be the ultralux

Nope definitely not the Ultralux. Its going to be the tail end of the Silverado Deluxe or the beginnings of the Diamond J. I'm thinking the LE came out slightly before the 2100 series.

2100

Diamond Jubilee was 1984.2100 was added Jan 85 from merger with Canadian and US Lux.Early models had Made in Canada molded near front wheel, thicker wiring inside and no tool rack on blower cover.Shortly after introduction reginal service managers had to instruct every branch service manager,of which I was one,how to inpect for and repair loose fan housings. These could loosen with machine running with combination of spinning fan, plastic front of rear housing and friction stopping motor.Color was tan and dark green or officialy sandstone/jadestone.LE came later with early models having no bag lockout.

So, the first Hi-Tech 2100 was sand/jade instead of oyster/blue?  I've never seen one like that - thanks for teaching me something new!  Do you have a photo of one in those colors?  Every Hi-Tech I've seen has had a blue top, and I think the blue was lightened and brightened at some point to better match the Ultralux/Epic shade of blue.

In 16 years of doing this, I have never seen one of these sandstone and jade models. I would also love to see a picture of it. The Diamond J started in 1987, not 1984. In 1984, the Sliverado was still in full force until they changed it in 1985 to the Silverado Deluxe which had a PN5 rather than the silver PN4.

Talking to an electrolux dealer he claims the first 2100 was Black and Grey. I have had one before.

Elux Jubilees

Golden Jubilee was 1924 plus 50 years.Diamond Jubilee was 1924 plus 60 years.Silverado was April 82.But where it gets confusing is that Silverado had at different times 2 top trims,2 power nozzles and 2 motors. On first top trim front carry handle was similar to Super J.First Silverados had gray painted top PN 4.Then this was modified where raised area over motor did not extend all the way across. Then PN 5 was introduced along with new wand latch as noted on box.First Silverado had refined version of Olympia motor. Then Diamond J was introduced with PN 5 and new motor.I might say new and not improved. Then as Electrolux had "drive months" in Apr and Oct when they went all out for sales Silverado reapeared as a close out at reduced price for extra sales with DJ motor. You can tell if Silverado had DJ motor if cordwinder grommet has "eyebrow".Hope this adds to the Elux story.

"Silverado had at different times 2 top trims"

I thought it was the Olympia One that had 2 different top trims? Early Olympias had the Super J style top trim, & later Olympias evolved towards what would be the Silverado style top trim.

Super J 1975-78
Olympia One 1978-81
Silverado 1982-83
Diamond Jubilee 1984-86
Marquis 1987-88?

It was during the Marquis era when Electrolux discontinued the Turbotool Rug Washer.

I'm not sure if this is the correct timeline/info?

Ok, being the owner of a Silverado, "eyebrow"? Please explain if you can what that is? I think mine is earlier, has #4 painted pn.

Olympia-Silverado

Top trim--As often happens we're both right.Olympia, which was the official vac of the 80 winter olympics, had top and smaller rear wheels of Super J.Later changed to bigger rear wheels and top with easier to carry front handle. Also motor was improved with bars at rear to reduce vibration. ---floor-a-matic-My blue cordwinder was good on outside, bad on inside.I should have others. As my personal computer went from bad to worse you could lick stamp or dial phone,423-543-7900.---Eyebrow--As one of changes on DJ was thicker side bumpers an extention was added above cord grommet to reduce cord rubbing bumper from being pulled up instead of outward. When closeout reduced price Silverados were made they used new molds but grey color part of course.Other way to see if Silverado has DJ motor, aside from it running and sounding bad,is to remove bag and see if there is a space between bag housing and front of motor.More than 1205 or Olympia for example.

I can presume then that mine has the new DJ and not improved motor? It seems to me to have a lot of power, a bit of a vibration on coast down this last year I think. Is this motor serviceable?Bearings or anything. My local vac shop thinks yes. BS?

Elux motors

It is always possible to find new complete motor to fit almost any Elux. The problem with the Diamond Jubilee and later motor was rear metal end and sleeve bearing which would wear leading to noise, vibration and armature-carbon brush failure. This replaced an improved, exellent, long life easy to service Olympia-Silverado motor.Wonder which one the company thought would save money?duh!Elux developed a repair kit with newer plastic type rear motor cover, ball bearing, carbons and armature. This was a good repair and may be available from Aerus.May need to trim or change motor cover on some machines.I have recently used a Marquis as it was most convenient to pick up and turn on were I needed it.It sounds bad but it does run and run so maybe your repair will be in distant future.

Thanks for all the help/ input. I use the machine about once a week for 20 minutes, too heavy for me most days, back trouble.Still love it though, my favorite of all.

Mine is a special edition model. Inside the bag door it says it's a High Tech 2100 Colors are burgundy/sandstone I guess. Don't have pic yet, waitin til I get her thru the spa treatment. Also need to find a new hose for it as the one with it is the original & leaks as do most of that age. Anyone know where mine falls in the lineup & what the year of manufacture might have been?

I hope the new motor sounds like a "true" Electrolux & not like a Shark or other Chinese-made vac?

btw, what is that tube for? The "tube" that comes with the motor

That is a Peanut motor. It is loud and whiny and not the best motor ever. The tube extends the bag housing so it can be used in certain models with the shorter housing.

We normally use a nice two stage motor that we drill out to put in those machines. Much better noise level and better suction. Longevity is better

Is the 2-stage motor a Ametek/Lamb & which one is it?

special editions

The tan/burgundy Lux is probably about 88 and was made along with upright for Sams club.To reach more customers Elux managment decided to have usual models for company owned sales offices and door to door sales, slightly different models at lower price at certain dept stores and a program for direct ship from home shows, etc. If you bought one from your "friendly Elux man" and were shopping later at Sams and see Elux in different color and no bumper on floor tool at a reduced price how would you feel? And so did many loyal customers who passed these feelings along to the salesmen. For a time Elux salespeople who felt they were losing sales had a chance to work in Sams club demoing Elux. The Burgundy models were among best looking. There was also a Regency series in tan/light blue.

Thanks for the info Jimmy. I thought that mine was maybe an "oddball" of some sort. Makes sense that it was sold at Sam's Club. I vaguely remember Elux at Sam's when I was a kid.

Electrolux 2100

that I have is the Black and gray one. It is in mint condition, except it only turns on then off again. If you lay it on it's side and turn it on, it will run. Don't know what is wrong with it. I would take it to an Electrolux dealer for repair but we don't have any Aerus dealers in this state anymore... Any suggestions of what is wrong and how to fix it would be gladly accepted. Dan

Actually the colour of the first 2100 was called Jadestone (midnight blue) and grey. It was out in Canada at the same time as the last of the Siverados were out in the US and came with the PN5. The later version came with the PN6 then they changed the colours to Tuape (Brown) and grey (aka the system 90) and also brought out the maroon and grey special edition as a mall show promo item.

Incidentally the 2100 WAS the delux model in Canada. They tried selling the Grand Marquis and Legacy in Canada and they bombed. People here found them too heavy and clumsy. Hence the return to the Diplomat models. I was selling machines part time at that time and sold a couple dozen of the Ambassador models and only 1 Legacy - which the lady traded in 2 years later.

Hey Andre:

Just as an FYI. That brochure is way out on some of the dates and is missing about half the models. When it was put out I was asked about using my collection for the pictures but someone in the US overruled the Canadian office and put that abortion together. The guys in head office here were furious but they had no controll over it.

Doug

PS: I can post a listing of the actual models and dates if you like.

Brochure

Hey Doug, the brochure goes back in 1995. the only purpose was to show the Electrolux 2100.
I have a more recent brochure dated in 2000.
Is yours more recent ?

That pretty much sums up the houshold cannister machines sold in Canada by Electrolux The only thing I could add is that the LX and E were also sold here briefly to test the market for the bag controll feature. The only difference being that the E was sold with the Canadian parts as the dual parts were considered to be "cheap" and only sold with the drop down model 54.
