Well, due to too much downsizing and just going out and always buying the cheapest thing I could afford I am out of a good working vacuum at the moment. So I went on ebay and searched for kirbies and found a seller selling all of the g series for very well prices. But, I just don't know which one I want. I am deciding between a G5, G6, G7 ultimate and a G7 ultimate diamond. Is there a difference of suction power in each one? Basically I just want to know what the difference is between the models so I can make the best choice. Also, is $329 a good price for a sentria? Thanks.

They are all basically the same besides color, and the Ultimate G Diamond has a 2 speed switch. I would go for the cheapest one since they are pretty much the same vacuum, but that is just me.

Yeah, I do like the color combo on the G5. I'm also thing of getting a dyson slim. Are they good vacs?

I don't really like the G3. Some people say there's no difference, some say there is, I just know that I have noticed most G3's being a little funky and jerky with the TechDrive, the self propel transmission. The G5 is Purple and the G6 is Black so as for color, I like them better, but otherwise I have noticed no difference in any of them. $329 is not a bad price for a Sentria particularly, but know that Sentrias acutally have an all plastic handle with a cheap Aluminum vernier on the base and newer Sentrias also have plastic bottom casings of the main housing. On older models, all these parts are cast aluminum and are much more durable and long lasting. I actually prefer a pre-generation model because of this. I do, in fact, have a G4 right now in the for sale pile. It's not the best aesthetically, it could use a buff, but it has a new belt, bag, and fan impeller on it and the brush roll is in great shape. I would part with it for $50 plus ship to someone of vacuumland.

DO NOT GET THE DYSON if your in the market for a kirby.

the kirby is by far the best deep cleaner made today.

i own a G3 and like it alot.

however if i had a choice i would get a diamond, the best brush roll and a two speed switch (you will need it as it will suck up floor mats)

they are cumbersome but they push easy and really clean the best.

I'd personally go with the Ultimate G Diamond. I've had everything from the G3 and up, except the Sentria. If the G3 has the original Tech Drive setup, they are a bit jerky. Repairing a G3 is also a little more involved in some areas than the rest of them. You can tell it's a first-gen machine. I'd personally avoid the G5. It's a beautiful machine, but there's something wrong with the plastics used. I've seen more busted G5 plastic pieces than any others. On top of that, they show stress marks in the plastics the most. There's a reason Kirby is sticking with gray for plastics. The G6, being black, doesn't have the same problems with plastics as the G5. I've noticed no broken or stress-marked plastics.

If you can get a Diamond for a good price, get one. If not, search for a nice G6. They're my runner-up.

As far as suction/air flow, they're all pretty similar. The internal fan casing is the same in every G model, including the Sentria.

Well,

I've searched and searched and have found good prices on diamonds and G6s. The only thing is I didn't take in to account that I have a very small living room. So, I might have to go a little smaller than a kirby. That's the only reason I was considering a dyson. What would you guys recommend for a powerful machine that is small? Would an oreck be a good vac?

I would recommend a Dyson, they are great machines. If you need something smaller, I would suggest a Sanitaire. Very powerful, last forever, easy to maintain and relatively inexpensive.

Look, don't worry about storage of the Kirby. At the base of the handle there is a three position switch that allows you to set the handle to either go all the way to the floor to get under furniture or to lean the vacuum back a little so you can easily go up onto rugs or over thresholds. If you hold the handle parrallel to the floor and push the switch all the way the other way, it will lock the handle flat and you can stand the Kirby on it's nose and lean it against the wall in the corner or your closet.

I've decided to go with the kirby. I'm trying to go with the cheapest one this seller has since this would be a Christmas present from my parents. So, I'm deciding between a G3-$171.65, a G4-$191.65 and a G5 which I really love this model and is $211.65. Which one is the best out of all of them? Thanks.

Holy crap! Those prices are out of this world!! I saw a Sentria sell for 180 on ebay the other day. Surely you can find a much better price than that. In general G4 or G5 for my money though, but shop around a little bit to prices are absurd.

i got my g3 for $43, given it was scratched to hell and corroded. looks fine now! AND it came with all the tools and caddy all mint.

as said the diamond would be my first choice, followe by the 5 and 3.

my favorite IS the 3 BUT it would not be most people's first choice.

for a nice, new motored polished, looked at machine $215 isnt that bad if you think about it.

Heck bought a brond new Diamond edition one time in 2005 from a dealer for $450.00 with everything so I would have a hard time paying over $200.00 for a used one. What really ticks me off is I had just bought a new diamond edition months before for $900.00 then my sister bought one for $700.00. I wonder if the $450.00 one was hot??? I sold it a while back as I didn't need it.

If you've got the money, go with the G5. Its the most elegant looking of the whole Generation series. Make sure you are getting it from a reputable seller (it seems like you are). The prices are more than fair, and you will be getting a machine that has been checked out by a repairman, most likely polished and reconditioned, and make sure it has a written warranty.

The actual cost to the regional distributor of a new Kirby typically is around 350 to 450. They then sell it to the individual distributor for around 800 who effectively sells it to their senior distributors (experienced salesmen) for 1000 or their junior distributors (new salesmen) for 1200. These are all approximate figures that I experienced as a Kirby salesman and have roughly confirmed in my dealings with other distributorships. In 2005, the Sentria was about to come out in 2006 so they probably wanted to dump the Diamond before the Sentria came out.

You know, this is a tough one.

The speed switch isnt all its cracked up to be- its not that great.

All in all, its whatever you choose- theyre all the same machine, just different colors-

if it was based on color, go for the G5- its not grey. :P
