will what a nice surprise.

I love the hoover windtunnel machines ( the origional ones) they were only sold here in limited numbers and only two models , the 13 inch bagged 1300 and the one pictured here in even fewer numbers.

I also have a self propelled green bagged windtunnel that was imported from the states.

so a freind who is a rep found this sitting behind some matresses in a furniture store still covered in plastic but missing its box.

it had never been used ( till i got it home )

so any way I got it home , took some pics and then took it inside to use. we are having some building work done so the place needs lots of vacuuming.

we have ben using the miele s7 for a while ( still with leaky bag) and the lounge had just been vacuumed . this is what I find shoking . the amount of dust this machine pulled out of the carpet turnd the filter to a light brown color. I couldn't believe it.

so I vacuumed with the dyson and nothing more came up . cleaned the hoover bin tried again . nothing just some lint.

so I ran a few tests in the lab and yet agian . this machine pulled out dirt that a , miele s7 , dyson dc27, Kirby legend ll , Kirby sentian and rainbow e left behind.

sure it may be built cheaply but if it works that well then who cares.

I have often thought to my self that premium machines may just be a waist of money , sure they will last longer but I have often found that the cheaper ones clean better.

I am trully impressed with this machine.

here it is with my 1300 bagged version

My CAD$120 Hoover Tempo Widepath is essentially a bagged Hoover Windtunnel. It is an excellent deep carpet cleaner, easy to use, relatively quiet for a 12 amp bag-first upright, and does the job with ease. I do not use it for anything else but carpets, and that's fine with me. My apartment is small and I don't have a lot of carpeting so I only need to replace the bag 2 or 3 times per year, so maintenance is a breeze. Even if it lasts me only 5 years, I figure I have already saved myself several hundred dollars.

Your silver bagless Windtunnel was one of the best bagless cleaners when it came out (according to Consumer Reports - it cleaned carpets much better than any of the early Dysons that were on the market at the time.)

Hi,I had a similar model but it was under the Maytag name.
I found it very loud and it's cleaning performance was ok but nothing special.
I sold it to another collector who love his Hoovers down south.
Not many of these was sold here in the UK.

I used to have that same machine!! It was named maytag though, picked it up for a tenner -bargain!

It was deffo a great carpet cleaner, so long as the prescreen was kept clean!

I couldnt get parts for for it over here, and ended up loaning it to my aunt as she has three dogs. Who part exchanged if for a cylinder! Gutted!!

Is the DC27 i see a UK version, or sahould i say the version that has the UK brushbar?

yep its a uk model, but it cleans much better than the 14 as it has a wider sole plate opening, its a good machine though nothing compaired to my USA dc28 air muscle

Vacuum my housemate will use, because he can see it really doing the job, it may be loud and heavy but it is one hell of a cleaner... doesnt lose suction all that bad either.

I just couldn't believe how much dirt it picked up that the miele s7 upright left behind, I am a little ocd as far as dirt and dust goes so it was a real eye opener. I have only ever had bagged versions of the windtunnel before and that is the one thing about bagged vacuums , you can never tell that they are working properly . so I never realized how well it cleaned.

A few years back i found a blue self propelled version during trash week and took it home it was one of the first bagless vacuums i've ever used so it was cool to me to be able to see things gather in the bin, the major problem with this is how quickly they lose their airflow they were fine when the filter/screen were clean but after cleaning the living room it would already have lost a massive amount of airflow, it was a shame. I've used the bagged versions and i think they're pretty good won't last forever but they do clean carpeting pretty well.

I've got the updated 2009 version of this and I actually really like it! It is the black and chrome model. An Oreck dealer saved it for me so I was nice and took it, thinking I would hate it. Boy was I wrong! I put a new belt on it and it takes off on all of my carpeting! They are really agressive and great deep cleaners. You are very lucky to have found that one brand new! I used to have a very similar model that I found in the garbage about 6 years ago and I really miss it.

that filter screen gets dirty fast but then again , that means it is cleaning the dirt out of my carpet so thats all good, I have a self propelled bagged version and its awesome but I must say I like this the most the mini turbine head is nice and quiet compared to others I have used too

I just got the 100th anniversary edition. This is the man who was largely responsible for Windtunnel.

John,

that must have been really nice to meat him, Did he tell you how he came about the idea?

I love to see the prototypes of ideas like this, it is very interesting and you can learn alot from them.

I used to live with people who had teh brown version of that one (the only difference between the brown one and the one you have is that the brown one came with a 30 foot extension hose) and it was a dreadful cleaner... Sure the agitation was great and aggressive, but the airflow was gone almost the instant you turned it on. Of cousre they had a dog, so 3 passes and the thing stopped sucking. When I lived with them, I used my s/p Concept 2 instead and they thought I was funny for using such an old vacuum when they had this shiny new bagless plastivac.... I tried to use the attachments once and there was almost no suction through the hose... and I cleaned the filter (which was a disaster).... it ate belts too. When I sold them at Sears, everybody who bought one came back and returned them for the bagged version.

Glad you like it though.... the brushroll is great, and the switch is in the right place!

Hi I think allot has to do with how you look after the vacuum and maintain it, I have 11 cats 2 inside bunnys and 3 dogs , That hoover works its butt off every day at the moment, after each use I empty the container and wash the filter it takes all of a few seconds. so many machines that are brought into our shop under warranty ( bought from bbs not us ) just have a snapped belt or a clogged filter, most snapped belts occur as the customers set the machine to low as well

Maytag Windtunnel U5750

Hello everyone - I have just joined this group so am busy wading through the many threads with great interest.

I have recently acquired one of these machines in a terrible filthy and unloved state although it appears to work ok. The main problem with it is the hose is split and despite attempts at repair this has proven unsuccessful. I would like to restore this machine to pristine condition either for my own use or for sale. I have a Miele S5211 with Cat & Dog nozzle so am well set up with a good vacuum cleaner but I couldn't bear to see this Maytag go on the scrap heap. I have been able to find Hoover Windtunnel spares but have not been able to determine if these spares would fit the Maytag. I am assuming that the two machines are identical and merely branded differently. Can one of you experts clarify this point? Many thanks
