On the way home from my mid shift--drove by a yard sale and spotted a desirable sight-a Hoover vacuum handle sticking up out of the other yard sale goodies! Was a beacon to me and stopped right away-and bought it!Only 3 bucks-Its a Hoover model#1070 "Deluxe Convertible"and in nice shape. The motor runs smoothly and also during spindown when turned off.Replaced the bag and belt-the vac came with 5 packs of "C" bags and 3 packs of belts. The person selling it said it was her mothers vacuum.Have been trying it and its a nice vac up there with my Kirbys, royals and Riccar Radiance. Its an instant favorite-will hunt for more Hoovers!Do any Hoover experts know about when this machine was made?It has the "narrow" profile outer vinyl bag-uses "C" paper bags. The paper one that came with it was packed with dirt and black dog hair! The brushroll is in excellent shape-the brush strips look recently replaced.

Nothing like 3 buck convertibles LOL.. There was one at a yard sale here last weekend but I passed, a bit too scratchy, 5 bucks... then the other day I see it at the Habitat for Humanity store since they mustn't have sold it.. for $20 LOL

At another yard sale got a Hoover "dustette" hand vac-It works well too. Can't beat those old Hoovers-they sure have quality motors! At how well they run I leave those motors alone! That reminds me-gotta check the HFH store near me!Maybe they have some vacuum and appliance goodies! At that yard sale was lucky to find that Hoover vacuum-surprized some other yard sale hunter didn't snap it up.

Tolivac,

Your Hoover Convertible is from 1969. The 1070 had a run from '69 to '71 and was considered the top of the line machine. The colors are Marine Blue for the motor hood, Seal Greige light for the base, Seal Greige medium for the bag, and Seal Greige deep for the bumper and the handle grip. The 1070 was introduced in Feb. 1969 and began production in late 1968. It was the first Convertible to have a four position height adjuster for all rug types. It was the second model to use the "square" hood design. Distinguishing features for the 1070 were handle grip, full wrap around bumper, bag latch, longer 21 ft. cord, and a two speed motor. If it is a pre 1970 model, it will have a painted switch plate and bag latch sometimes referred to as the "diving board". Later models had the nickel trimmed switch plate and bag latch. Also, earlier models had the smooth foot pedal versus the later "ribbed" and smaller foot pedals. These were and still are some of the best carpet cleaners out there. I use a 1070 as my vacuum. I use it with the cleaning tools and for all of my carpets. It is a great machine and very dependable. Congrats on your lucky find...and for $3 too!!!

Tom:thanks for the info-Your description matches it to a tee!I am very impressed with the vac.Now I use it alongside my Kirbys and Royals!Truely classics.Ifeel the guy at Hoover who came up with the "Convertible" design was a genus!Simplicity!and it works!Scrap the new designs and go back to the Convertible! At this point looking for more of these machines.
