Has anyone every installed a larger amp lamb motor in a Tristar DXL ? I have several like new kenmore whispertone motors that look about a half inch longer.The standard tristar motor is 7.5 amps I think these motors are about 8 or 9 amps.

It's possible with a few modifications...........

 The real question is going to be how well these motors fit into the brackets inside the machine. If your housing around the armature is a close-enough fit, you can pull it off. I tried this once, but it was with a 10 amp Lamb motor and the armature end of the motor was too long. I would have needed to take the plastic cage away from the blower port in order for it to work and I wasn't comfortable leaving the that end of the motor exposed without something in front of it.

Dunno about it being longer or bigger, but the motor I fitted (turned out that it's a chinese clone of an Ametek motor) in my Tristar CXL when it arrived has tapered fins, generating more power in terms of airflow and suction, compared to it's original flat-finned motor that it used to have back in the states.... :)

And with a few calculations, the motor is maybe about half an amp more, as the rating plate says 7.8 Amps at 120V, and the motor I used is a 240v 1000W, and 1000W at 120v would be 8.3A (of course being 240v it's only about 4 Amps, cos when it comes to cleaning efficiency, amps means nothing in reality!!), so it is slightly more powerful in terms of electricity, but it's even more powerful in terms of getting the air moving through it... :)

The only issue I had was that the shape of the motor didn't quite sit securely in the gasket, as it was meant to fit a modern Henry vac, so has a flat rear on the fan case, so I had to "glue" it in place with silicone sealant cos it kept popping itself out of the gasket and into the bag chamber, but I haven't had an issue with that since, so it's not a problem any more... :)

tapered fins

 I see this style of fans in the newer kenmores,I will have to call amteck and see if I can get one of those motors with tapered fan blades for my Tristar.would you know if any other vacuum brands use this motor?,I find all kinds of vacuums here in Arizona perhaps I can scavenge one and install it for a low cost.

I haven't a clue what other vacs use the same motor, I happened upon the motor by chance when I was looking at them on ebay, and it said it was for a Henry, I'm sure it's used in other brands, but I don't know what they are... :\

There might be a 110v version for the Henry (as they have both voltages), but I don't know where to get those replacement motors... :(

There is another brand you could probably consider, and that's Domel, they're basically the same design as Ametek, but some come with the tapered fin design, but they're not cheap, and I haven't a clue at all what vacus they may come in aside from commercial and industrial vacuums...

I listed it on Ebay.

 I decided to use the same motor it came with,that is in great shape.the paint job looks great and who ever gets this Tristar should be very happy with it.
