I am new here and I have two that I have hunted down and restored, and think they are amazing. See my profile pic^^

What is everyone else's opinion on these little cleaners? I know these generally are pretty desirable to people, but I have heard mixed opinions.

I like the Broom Vac...

...so much, I own three - two Dirt Devils, and one blue Royal. I keep one in the mud room, and use it to vacuum the area rug by the back door, and the mat by the kitchen door. I use one, and the other two are spares. The vac is perfect for the smaller size of the rug - the brush roll does a nice job on what the dog and I track in, but the machine is not so aggressive that it messes up the lighter rugs.

Is it true...

That the broom vacs share the motor with the hand vac?

LOve it !

Will not let it go. Bought new in the 90's for one 5X7 Rug in a Studio apt. I had. Was always going to order the attachments and still wish I would have.
Then in my house, I used it for the carpet on the steps before I got my lux Side Kick ! I used it on the indoor outdoor carpet on my front porch, and on the furniture cushions on the wicker furniture.
I just can't let it go !

I had one & it did nice on carpet & bare floors. Since it was a curb-side find, I didn't get the tools :(

I LOVE this Broom Vac so much, until the motor burnt out :(

However, when I need to use the tools, I use a canister vac.

Its a nice thing to have more than one vacuum :)

I wish Royal still made parts for these Broom Vacs.

Motors

broomvac's profile picture
In fact these DO use the same motors. In the process of restoring my two Broom Vacs, I actually replaced the motors in BOTH of them with identical hand vac motors. Well, one was a three-amp hand vac motor from a DD PLUS hand vac and the other was a 2 amp motor from a 103. With the two amp one,I basically made a late production Broom Vac (click on my profile picture and its the one on the right) use the same motor as the very first Broom Vac ever made. The less amp does make the vac quieter, but I hardly notice any drop in performance with that conversion. I actually enjoy the 2 amp one slightly more, because it sounds so unique! Both work fine and have plenty of power!

Just swap fan and pulley, and you are good to go! Extraordinarily easy!

I have one and I love it! I wish I could find a blue one and I wash I could find attachments for the red one! I also have an outer bag, a handle, and all the manuals and brochures for the blue one.

Can't help but notice the Electrolux with the Kirby Sanitronic series Elbow & Floor tools attached with tape... :P

Here in the UK they're known as the "Broomy", presumably because they called the Hand-vac the "Handy", I did have a bid on one a long while ago on ebay, but I was too cheap to go over £5, seeing as Dirt Devils never really catch my eye, if someone offered one for free I'd probably take it though, wouldn't mind trying them out for myself... :)
