Here is a machine that was sitting in the upstairs at one of my friends' house. I asked who the machine belonged to and she told me her sister brought it home when she moved everything out for college. I knew her sister was a senior, so i asked if she still needed it or if she would want another vacuum in trade to replace it. Her mom said they didn't need it so it came home with me.

It is a cool Dirt Devil, very different than using an MVP, Upright, or a Deluxe.
I know this color and model would have been a KMart Exclusive (confirmed by her mom she bought it at KMart) in January 1995. I've only seen one other MVP in this color and a hand vac in the color, so i knew there must be a complete set out there somewhere of Dirt Devils in this turquoise.

If you ask me it looks like the color of Hoover's 'Sea Foam Green' featured on the 593 Convertible.

Enjoy! (:

Good lord Kyle! That thing is beautiful! It looks exactly like my Classic, minus the signature red color. I really wish I didn't sell it foolishly for $15 at one of our garage sales 4 years ago. I will never forget that, my first real vacuum, huge sentimental value. Have yet to find another one.

Does this vac convert suction from floor>tools when handle is upright or do U have to disconnect/connect it?

You flip the switch in the lower right corner and a cheap flexible plastic piece cuts the suction of going to the brushroll and diverts it to the hose.

And btw Kyle, I realize your a very ambitious collector, and therefore you probably want to find the whole "Sea Foam Green" set. However, if you were to ever sell this machine, i would be an instant buyer for sentimental reasons.

I have not seen one of those in years. I used to have the Red classic, the green extra, and the black deluxe. I liked them.
Did they make any others?

As stated above, I had the red classic also. I had no idea they made a black one also??? Did it pretty much look just like the classic and the extra hp? And, it's really bugging me... What does "HP" stand for???!!!

For anybody that has a bag style D machine, could you see if a Kirby cloth Micron Magic HEPA bag would fit? And how well it performs with them? It seems like it would give it a higher more powerful airflow rate, if it would fit. As they are massive bags to begin with ;).

Darren

HP stands for High Performance. So it mean Extra High Performance.

They made this in Red, Black, Green, Burgundy, and Dark Green.

Thanks, Kyle. Was each color the same name or did they each have there own name? Such as red classic, light green extra high performance? Or was there a lineup of extra hps that were sold in those colors?

Tools/Floor switch

I remember a Dirt Devil that U flip the switch from full-width cleaning to edging only; was that the earlier Deluxe series?

@Floor-A-Matic

Correct me if I am wrong, but yes I believe the earlier Deluxe series had that edge cleaning/full width switch. The Classic and other similar models simply have the one switch that goes between the floor mode and hose mode.

Hey Kyle,

I have the Turqoise Dirt Devil Handvac in this color. It came with the original bo and all attachments except for the wand and it also came with the manual. One of the plastic screw holes that holds the bottom plate on, and another one that holds the motor in, are broken though. I wish I could find the Extra HP and have the whole series of that color.

Very cool all this stuff I'm learning guys! @thevacuumguy96, do you think you could post some pictures of the hand vacuum? Thanks.

Did you get those pictures yet? And by the way my 103 Red hand vacuum started making intermitent scraping noises and if you look inside there is sparking in the motor (does not escape vacuum). Would this be normal or are the bearings, brushes, etc worn? Thanks.

~Darren

Darren, I believe the brushes are worn. My Green Dirt Devil Plus and my Black Dirt Devil 500 both do that. And I don't know about the scraping noise. Here is a pic of my green Dirt Devil Plus Handvac.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou! Haha I just love that color! Is brush replacement on these models fairly easy, or should I just find another red handheld? There is always one at the local goodwill :) .

Yes, brush replacement is fairly easy as long as you have an extra brushroll. Otherwise, you could just buy a red Dirt Devil Handvac and use the brushroll from that. The green Dirt Devil Handvac I have actually came with all of the attachments except for the wand, and it came with the manual and the original box also. It was only $3.75.

Oops forgot to say motor brushes, not the brushroll haha. I think I'll take it to the vac shop and get it checked out, every time i have the urge to take something apart it has little chance of getting back together ;) .
