it looks kind of like a Dyson to me but I am no Dyson expert so how should I know?

Looks to me a lot like the Hoover bagless rewind series?

The bottom/brush assembly wheel part looks close to the Dirt Devil I or the Bosch/Siemens version, but the top part Dust Bin/Handle looks close to an earlier Dyson.
