Hi all, I was looking for some opinions on the Hoover Powerdrive system on the new Windtunnels. Is it worth getting or should I pass and just buy a tempo widepath? I have no problem with pushing a vacuum, but I would like to know how it is with powerdrive.

Hoover Powerdrive...

Well, it depends on how thick your carpet is. If you have mostly low pile, or even a shorter medium, the powerdrive is aggressive and jerky at best. If you have thick carpet or shag, the powerdrive is great!

We were just talking about this on another thread. The Windtunnel Power Drive made for a decade up to about 2009 (maybe later) incorporate a design that is a bit complicated but not expensively made, so therein lies the problem. If you don't need Power Drive, I'd opt for the unassisted version to avoid problems in the future. Well, the kind of problems you'd be apt to have with the Power Drive version and not the simpler anyway. Not to say that you can't have a problem with the simpler version, it just isn't as likely given the lower level of complexity.

They may still be making the Windtunnel Power Drive; I was at Sears not long ago and they had a new one in their line-up for sale. I thought, "Hmmm, I didn't know these were still in production" so I looked at the data tag and it said it had been made in 2008. I've got a newer one than that on hand right now, an '09.
