The older ones did not come with a storage place for the powermate junior. It is most likely original to the machine.

Often Whispertones were sold with a color-matching PM Jr., if the model was a more expensive unit.

An Off-the-shelf PM Jr. is usually just darker gray, and was made to fit most Kenmore cansiters from the 1970's to "Present". Present being the early 2000's, when they started selling the newer/ smaller PM Jr., which also had the same fit and function.

Why did the PM Jr shrink to smaller size & now use flat belt? This is ridiculous about the PM being smaller & takes a flat belt instead of geared belt like the earlier PM Jrs.

Actually,

the earlier PM Jr. takes the same belt as the newer type. A glorified rubber band. The newest PM Jr I'm not sure about yet.

The newest Power Mate Jr. is MUCH better than the older ones and is much more powerful in my opinion.

This PowerMate Jr

Takes a geared belt. One thing I like about this style PM is no tools required to service the brush.

I think they switched to the flat belt when the release button was oval instead of rectangular.
