Just something I put together last night, takes some work to do modifying the end caps, and I nearly blinded myself in the process, but I got there in the end... :P

I've yet to try it out, cos the PN case needs repairs, and I need to remember what I did with the wheels, and I need to get another 240v motor for it, and I need to find a vac to fit it, but I'm just pleased with the result so far... :D

Oh this is so funny!!! The VGIII brush strips stick out so far that the PN will actually race off without you if you don't hang onto it!!! If I had the space, and wasn't busy having a few beers, I'd get a video of it... :P

Still need to find those wheels though...

Let me know how it performs in the video. The only modern brushroll that would normally fit in this is the VGII.

It had a VGII originally, and still has the axle and whatnot from the VGII, but the endcaps have been modified to accept the extra 2 brush rows from the VGIII tube, I could still refit the VGII so it is a reversible mod... :)

I can't use it properly just yet cos of the above issues with the PN, I have it set up for 120v use (using it's original motor and lightbulb that it came with), I'm just playing at the moment, aswell as keeping the engineering ancestry going (Armstrong blood, plenty of engineers have come from the Armstrong bloodline, especially the one that went to the moon!!), cos I can... :D

Eureka PN VGII Bearings

 Why do they melt so quickly? Do I have to oil them or are they "self-lubricated?" What type of oil must I use, if needed? I'm using the right belt, but I hear a grinding sound when I use the PN; & I noticed that the bearing (belt side) gave out.

I can't be 100% sure as I only have the one VGII based PN, but, the bearings in mine are Bronze Sleeve bearings, and these need the occasional lubricating, using 3-in-1 oil in the blue can (clean the bearing first using cotton swabs, using the oil to clean), otherwise they dry out and then wear down and either seize up or break up...

If you have a grinding sound, it's probably too late, the bearing on the pulley side of my VGIII brushroll had been left dry, and it had worn away not just the bronze sleeve bearing but the axle too, rendering the whole thing useless (hence why I modded the bearings on my VGII axle to take the VGIII), so take the brushroll out, take it apart and check everything over, too much free-play in the bearing itself and any signs of scoring on the axle means you need to buy a new one...

This is the remains axle that my VGIII came with, sliding the remains of the bearing off the axle revealed this mess, note that there should not be a step, nor should there be any melted bronze attached to the axle!!!:

Oh, almost forgot about the two short brush strips from that end of the VGIII brushroll, this shows why you NEED to oil your bearings, they got hot enough to melt and blacken, and could possibly have even started a fire:
