This weekend I was out going to estate sales/thrifting or just plain vac hunting. Kenny Loveland was up for the weekend and we just happened to drive by this Kirby dealer that sometimes sells trade ins. I saw a sign in the parking lot that said "Vacuums, Starting at $20.00". So we decided to check out what they had. I didn't expect that they would have anything we would want. But they did. They had already put them away as it was raining and the vacs were outside earlier. So we took a look around, saw several Dysons and Orecks and lots of plastic vacuums. I was looking at the Orecks and one caught my eye. I have been on the hunt for a XL-21 or one of the later versions of it lately. After seeing all the rave reviews about it and trying some of Kenny's Orecks, I decided I wanted an Xl-21. Well, I saw a black Oreck that I thought might just be one of the later versions of the XL-21. Kenny confirmed that it was so I bought it. I got it for a really great price. It came with the original bill of sale and the owner's manual. The original owner paid 700 for it two years ago. I got it for $70.00. What was interesting was the older Orecks were marked higher than the one I bought. So I kind of wondered if there was some problem with it. I think the Kirby place just didn't know much about Oreck's. It doesn't appear to have seen a lot of use. It came with 5 bags and I noticed that the original owners bought an 8 pack of bags when new. So I figure only 3 bags have been ran through the machine. It runs great and I'm very happy with it. This model is called the XL Platinum Plus.

What a lucky find! That is definitely a new model, you can tell that by the Oreck logo on the base, it is not filled in with white. I have a newer Oreck just like that, it would be the model right below that. Enjoy though! An XL21 is on my list to get!

I love my XL-21 very light yet it's a decent cleaner. It stiffer brushroll than the olders models more airflow it's one of my favorite machines to pull out for medium/light duty, and it's soooo much quieter than the old style. Strange that the older ones would be priced higher....
