I am an Oreck fan (sorry folk) I recently purchased the new Oreck Gold and Canistar vac (Ill post pictures later) two days after it arrived I noticed that they had a new compact canister, that looks like is is replacing the old Deluxe one. HAs anyone had a chance to use it yet, I know it is only a few day old.

Very interesting.  That sure looks like a neat compact little unit!  Thanks for sharing.

That new design for an over-the-shoulder compact looks like it would hug the body better than the older rectangular shape.  Very interesting!

So Oreck has modified their compact canister....

And I'll bet you anything it's made in China. This is just one more way Oreck is trying to move production overseas. It's probably a good cleaner, just sad that a company so once-proud of its American heritage is now outsourcing more and more of its products.

You shouldn't have to apologize for liking a vacuum brand! If you like it, then express your likeness!

I love the New Orecks

I own about 25 Orecks I have the Gold and also the Platnium Pilot Silver ect. . I think Oreck over the past 3-4 years have finally got them right. I used to not like the older Orecks as most people do . The newest Orecks clean better and seem to be built better. I was an Oreck store manager about 9-10 years ago and had the chance to buy my local store and I turned it down to open my own multi line store. After seeing these new Orecks and using them I wish I had purchased that store. All of the newest Oreck work really well and now the new Gold as you have purchased has a new Enduro life belt now that alone makes the oreck eevn better. I didn`t know they finally changed the canister it looks like a good one .Good luck with it I know you will love it .

This looks like a scaled down version of Oreck's Edge Canister, which is a nice powerful little machine.

Kinda resembles a small "Hip" or even backpack vacuum-this new design may be promising.I think Oreck should provide a caster base for it for those who don't want to carry or wear the machine.

"I think Oreck should provide a caster base..."

That would be tough to do with the short little slinky hose.

I wonder if there is a difference in power between the new compact and their Edge unit.  I think I would like to try out the cordless model.  I can think of a couple situations where that might be handy.

My mother (a spry 86 years young) bought an Oreck team several years ago.  The upright serves her very well, although I think it's a bit tall for her.   An adjustable-height handle would be a plus for someone who is "vertically challenged."   Using her Deluxe cannister was terribly frustrating though.  I retrofitted it with a standard-length conventional hose so she doesn't have to try and hold the unit or wear it while she works.  She's very happy that she isn't knocking things over anymore, and I'm not so concerned about her toppling over!

Dan...

Had you purchased that Oreck store, after 10 years of loyal service, high sales, and providing outstanding customer service, you would now be forced to carry Mieles, whether you wished to or not, and if there were already a Miele dealer close by, you would forfeit your franchise. It is happening all over the country.
