I have a royal (all metal) and the height adjustment in the rear of the machine (pedal type adjuster) keeps slipping down. I've never encountered this before, does anyone recommend replacing the entire adjustment assembly or just part of it?

My suggestion really is to find a Royal with the screw-type "Rite-Hite" adjustment system. What you do is to turn counterclockwise the knob enough so the nozzle goes up, then turn the cleaner on, and then turn clockwise the knob enough so the nozzle contacts the carpet, and give it another clockwise turn.
