Hey guys.... I was just wondering what the major differences were between the original Hoover Floormates and the newere versions are.... a thrift store near me has the original one for 15 dollars.... the teal and grey one with all the foot pedals. I considered it, but if the newer ones are much better, hold out for one of them. I know some of the come with attachments, but I don't think I'd use those very often anyway. What do you guys think?

some of the original ones didnt have spinscrub like the new ones. 15 bucks would be a good deal if the machine is in geat condition.

Thanks.... this one had the spin scrub.... I wondered why they even made them without it!

Pamida here has remanufactured ones on clearance for $56.20 and I picked one up a couple weeks ago (the new version) and it is amazing. It gets floors cleaner than a mop ever could. Get it and you wont be disappointed!

The newer versions are much more user-friendly.  It's like they were baking a cake... Hoover put the FloorMate back in the oven for another few minutes, and it came out better than the first one.  I still have one of the first versions of the FM, and use it somewhat regularly.  It works very well.. I really liked selling the newer versions -- I think they worked a bit better, and were just easier to use -- overall.

Fred I think you are right. The newer ones have the button right where you can hit it with your thumb.... the older ones had the slide switch halfway up the body of the cleaner where no vacuum should have it... they had 2 pedals, the trigger, the power switche and the thumb slider for wet/dry... the new ones have a fold down handle too... and just one knob to control everything. I was selling vacuums at Sears when the first Floormates came out and customers had two complaints.... the controls were too hard to figure out and they didn't get in the grout. I don't know if the newer ones clean any better or not, but the sure do look better than the first ones.... Even my Hoover Steam vac does a halfway decent job on bare floors and it's not even made for them, so I imagine that the Floormate with much stiffer bristles would be great.

I'm thinking about it because it can suck up wet stuff.... I cook/bake a lot and I can never vacuum my kitchen floor with a regular vacuum because there is always some amount of water on the floor just from having a "used" kitchen.

I just looked at the one that Wal-Mart had and was wondering if it would be worth it... My whole house is hard floors except for the master bed room... I have the steam mop by Shark and it does okay i guess. I think I'll pick one up and give it a shot!

I had the original model (with spin scrub) and I loved it so much that I wore it out. I now have the newer model (though not the most recent) and I agree that something about it is a LITTLE better than the original in terms of overall cleaning.

However, I must say that I much preferred the thumb switch to change between scrub and suck modes as opposed to the dial that is half way down the machine. If you are tall, reaching for that dial gets old as opposed to the convenience of a thumb switch.

Anyhow, you certainly can't go wrong with the original model if the price is right.

Oh and by the way, for those that don't have a floormate at all, they are most definitely a great tool. I also have a floor steamer which I like, but I think the floors need a decent scrubbing every so often and I am very satisfied with the floor mate. My ceramic tile literally gleams after using the FM on it.

One of the big draws to me in the newer model is yes, it is much more user friendly and the biggest improvement was the grout brush and hand tool. That is great tool to clean around the toilet or tight spaces. Let us also not forget the fold down handle is great for storage.

I don't use it on my hardwoods any longer, just on tile and marble I am 100% sold on my HAAN steam mop - it does a superior job on hardwoods.
