Friday I was out making my rounds and came back with seven vacs. In the picture from left to right: (1) Electrolux Epic (needs a new power switch), (2) flacked-out Kirby 515 with original parts, missing emptor door, (3) Airway 88, (4) plastic-hulled Hoover Convertible missing headlight lens but having an interesting design original outer bag, (5) Very nice low-mileage later Hoover Concept I which has a functional self-propulsion, (6) Little, mostly complete Hoover Tempo canister, and (7) Fantom Cyclone XT.

I've passed on lots of earlier Fantoms; the ones I've encountered always seem to have some broken parts on them, particularly the external Hepa filter cabinet. This Cylone XT is a beautiful machine. With those faired headlights, it reminds me of a sleek sports car. When I plugged it in for test at the thrift store, it ran but the brushroll was intermittent. Initially, I didn't realize that this is a two-motor machine; I was dreading some kind of insoluble problem with the function of the brushroll but it was only dirty. When I got it cleaned up, it ran great. Perhaps the electronics were causing it to cut out, which I believe they are supposed to do when it encounters excessive resistance. It's all set to go except for replacement of a headlight bulb and I think I'll use an automotive part for that. Very glad I got the Fantom Cylone XT; the rest will probably be trade goods of some sort.

Looking at the picture just now, it's by coincidence that the Fantom is closest (in the picture, anyway) to my car in the foreground and they are both made in Canada. Yes, the Ford Crown Vic is an import - built by Ford of Canada in St. Thomas, Ontario.

I love the Airway too. I had never heard of them until I saw your pic -- and now I want one. I had no idea they started in my hometown of Toledo, OH!
