Last Wednesday, Miele launched their latest floorcare range, the mid-sized S6. The launch event wasn't held at their London Gallery, as usual, but in a borrowed 4-level house in Soho. A 'family' of actors were on hand to create mess and demonstrate the cleaners in a real home environment!

According to Miele's Head of Floorcare, who was flown in from Germany for the event, the S6 is set to replace the S4 - the only S4 which will remain in production is the S4812 Hybrid.

Pictured below is the entry-level S6210 'Power', equipped with the standard Miele floortool, and a 2000w motor.

S6240 'Ecoline' - 1200w motor, but the same pick-up performance as the 2000w models, thanks to the AIRTEQ floorhead.

And finally, the one you've all been waiting for!

S6730 'Red Velvet' - 2000w motor, and RF handgrip for fingertip power control. Automatic setting adjusts power to suit usage. Active HEPA filter. 'Red Velvet' flocked finish.

The S6 is pretty much what you'd expect from a Miele product; the S6 is quiet, solid and powerful.

They all use the FJM HyClean bags, and filters can be up- or downgraded as desired by the user. The dusting tools clip to the machine-end or the wand-handle end of the hose, a design which I'm not overly fond of.

One great feature included on all S6 models is the comfort' cord rewind; tap the pedal once, and it retracts. You don't have to balance whilst holding one foot on the pedal anymore!

I agree! Very cool pictures! Thanks so much for sharing! Do any of the S6 models have an electric powerhead available? And is there a model that has the auto-setting, but does not have the RF handle? I love the auto-setting on my Miele Platinum (which is coincidentally probably my favorite-to-use machine in the entire collection).

Great pictures Jack, thanks for sharing them. Can you tell me a little more about the AIRTEQ floortool? It looks very interesting.

S6

Thanks Jack for the pictures! I like the color of the s6240 Ecoline and would like to hear how quiet the S6290 is in operation. The AIRTEQ nozzle looks interesting.
As you know from our former emails, I love the new technology for the Dysons and Miele's but there is just something about the look of the old Hoovers,Lux's and the beautiful design of the Compact and Air-Way tools that still draw me.
Will these be priced under or above the S5 series? It is a little hard to tell about their size. Not owning a Miele, they all look very much alike except for the colors. Always exciting to see new quality products.

The Miele Platinum and White Pearl were really nice vacuums when they were made.

So is this the end of Miele canisters with on board tools?

I must say, I'm not fond of the tool storage setup either. I wish I had kept my s400 series canister. I don't remember if it was called a MediVac or an AllerVac, but it was basically the White Pearl in solid white. It was so much easier to live with because of the longer hose. I'm still trying to get my hands on Miele's PROFI model from the late 90's. It was sort of an avocado green with a cord colored in 'safety orange' and it had this massive aluminum floor tool.

David - thanks, I'm glad you like them!

Fred - there's a socket for a powerhead built into the cleaner; none of the UK machines come with a powerhead as standard, but it would be possible to purchase one separately and attach it. There aren't any S6 models which have the auto setting without the RF handle, but I don't know what the specs will be for the US market models. If I hear anything about this, I'll pass it on :)

Terry - the AIRTEQ head is a straight-suction, hard floor/carpet head which has been specifically designed for lower wattage Miele cleaners, to achieve the highest pickup possible. It's made of ABS plastic, with a smooth-running aluminium soleplate.

Rob - the Ecoline colour is called 'pistachio green'. I really like it, too! I share your admiration for the quality and engineering of the vintage vac models - but I don't feel that precludes the admiration of the contemporary stuff, either... With regard to the pricing, the entry-level 'Power' model starts at around £179, and the TOL 'Red Velvet' around £300. You can find S5 models within similar price brackets.

Jack,
I am with you. I still like the old machines but I have really been much more interested in the new designs from Dyson and others . I am NEW to the Miele machines but I sure like what I have been reading. Just so many models and color choices!
I love the design of the Dyson tools. The rug tool looks good.
Thanks for the pictures.
