My grandpa took me thrifting today and I sure lucked out! Our first stop was the Salvation Army and they didn't have anything, so we made our way to a church resale store. I found the Holy Grail! I found an Electrolux Legacy complete with everything for $35 dollars! It came with the standard attachments, floor brush, Sidekick, 18 bags, the manual, and the receipt! It works absolutely flawlessly as well! That store also had a red and tan Hoover Concept, a 1990's Panasonic, Hoover Turbo Power Hard Case Elite with tools on the side, 2 Hoover Floormates, Kenmore Bagless Progressive, Eureka Ultima, Singer Twin Fan, and a Hoover Elite!

The next stop was a Goodwill. I found this lovely Panasonic Jet Flo for $6.99! It needs quite a bit of cosmetic work though. But I have been after a small one like this for quite a while! The Goodwill also had a Bissell Power Force, white Kenmore Whispertone Power Path, Hoover Elite Encore, and a Singer Twin Fan. But this one was just calling my name! Does anybody know what year it's from? But all and out, Florida is the best place for thrifting!

Wow! That really is a great deal on that Electrolux! I found a similar deal on a Lux Classic at an estate sale once.. I ended up giving it to my sister; she still has it and loves it.

It really was a steal! I was surprised on the amount of suction it has!

Here is the brushroll, it doesn't even need cleaned!

Great deal!

The Panasonic is about like the one I found except mine has a headlight, Those Eluxes are great cleaners!

Nice find! Certainly a steal for such a machine!

My friend and I have had luck like that with one good will in praticular here. He found a kirby Sentria unused for $20, but had not attachments or box. He was in there, and nothing else was on the floor, and all of a sudden a worker brung it out of the back room and my friend nearly fainted.

That's how I was at a garage sale once! There was nothing there and all of a sudden, someone brought out my mint condition 1989 Royal Classic Edition for $10! That made my day.

Hey, Got a question for you. How do these newer lux PNs compare to say the Pn1/2?

It feels lock it locks onto the carpet much more, but it does seem to have more suction than the older ones. It feels like it gets deeper into the carpet though. Maybe somebody who has had more experience with one would be able to answer that for you!

The PN 1 is not a very deep cleaning nozzle- it was Electrolux's experimentation phase with a nozzle. The PN 2 (and Pn4) were designed for the carpet of that era (shag). The new Lux Power nozzles are fairly nice. They aren't overly deep cleaning, but they do have a nice chevron style brush that really propels the nozzle.

That is my favorite color scheme for all of the Electroluxes.

What a great deal!

Wow Chase, you really got a wonderful deal on that Lux Legacy canister! The Panasonic is really nice too, those are so durable and lighter weight than many newer models. Great additions to your collection!! Craig

Very nice finds! Am I the only one who thinks that range of Panasonic models looks suspiciously like a Dial-a-Matic knock off?

Dial-a-matic

If I'm not mistaken, I think Panasonic purchased that design from Hoover. Its nice, they still use it today for the bulk of their upright machines. It is such a tried and true design.

Post# 130025 , Reply# 14   3/31/2011 at 08:16 (4,766 days old) by henry200 (Saint Paul MN)
looks a lot like Dialamatics.....

The concept is just too good to let go and has persisted long after Hoover dropped the DAM. My Panasonic was one of the best "new" vacuum purchases I've ever made. An aunt had a Panasonic too, and when it died she bought a Riccar of the same design, but even more powerful.

I have an orange DAM circa 1968 that's in excellent shape. It stunk to high heaven when I got it, so disassembled it and washed it thoroughly and removed all the rotted foam. I also managed to find some brush strips for the brush roll. It cleans pretty well too and grooms the carpet quite nicely. Its only major drawback (besides being heavy) is the size of the bag.

Post# 130104 , Reply# 16   3/31/2011 at 22:54 (4,766 days old) by HooverCelebrity (Germany)

Yes, I believe Hoover did sell the design of the DAM to Panasonic, or their parent company..

What a steal is right! I really love the Epic series, there is something about it. And jeeze what a price on the Lux! Plus the Price on the Panasonic is also insane! That's cheap! Great find, thanks for posting.

Here is a group photo of all the vacuums I got while in Florida. It's going to be hard to pack all these in the car!
The Panasonic is going to clean up VERY well. All of the scratches are on the surface, and none are dug in. The only issue is there is no bumper, but I think it looks okay without it.

The Tri Star needs a new logo, as it only says "TriS" and one back wheel. Those should be very easy to get ahold of. I also have the dusting brush and plastic piece that attaches to the bottom of the floor brush at home. What other attachments should this machine have? It is a DXL..

The Oreck is absolutely amazing. One of my best deep cleaning canisters, and I strongly recommend it.

The Electrolux just needs a light cleaning, other than that, it is practically new!

Post# 130168 , Reply# 19   4/1/2011 at 17:50 (4,765 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

Your tristar will just need a dusting brush (matches the speckled lear tools)

Also a rug nozzle in metal. You seem to have the bare floor nozzle there.

Dont buy one new!!! THEY are about $125 new. I've got 3 or 4 of them. Ill try and dig one out and I could send you one if you need one.

Panasonic indeed purchased the patent, etc.... The DAM is a great machine, if not a tad bulky.

TriStar

It's supposed to say just "TriS" on it. :)

I do have the dusting brush for it. I am aware of those ridiculous prices! I called TriStar a year ago asking for the price of the metal floor tool for my CXL and they said it would be around 80 dollars! That is just way to much..

I don't know if you are kidding or not, haha, but if not, then it is supposed to say 'Tri Star' on it.

The ones I got all say interstate. I guess that means they were made for compacts. But dont know if the newer ones said anything else. So maybe its original.

Take a look at the second photo on this eBay listing. I'm not saying I don't believe you, because maybe some did and some didn't. I'm really curious about that now..

No IEC vacuum said TriS on it.

The logos on the side were kind of flimsy and would often times break in half, or completely fall off. I have had 3 tristars. 2 were missing its logos entirely, one was intact.

I'm confused now...

vacman117's profile picture
Is it supposed to say 'Tri Star' with the 'IEC' under it or not? Because all of the other DXLs I have seen do.

Post# 130276 , Reply# 29   4/2/2011 at 08:53 (4,764 days old) by Brandon_W_T ()

I have had one that said Tristar alone, and one that said Tristar CXL, and my otherone, I dont know what its supposed to say.

I think the CXL added it later, and perhaps all DXL had it? Not fully sure.

I looked closely at it, and the little line that connects all the letters is discolored, and isn't smooth, so it was broken off. There is also a little circle thing about an inch and a half - 2 inches away from the 'S' where the 'R' would connect.
