That looks so much like a Riccar. I know they are related but I can't find many differences. If it cleans anywhere near as well as my Riccar you will love it! Congratulations!

I have the more upscale, heavier model. Love it, never any trouble, but now have trouble pushing it on some carpets, I think maybe the squeegee on the bottom? Just a guess. Always thought it cleaned great, but not against the Concept 1

Nice color, I haven't seen it before. They are my favorite "modern" vac in all their permutations. The first one I bought (same as that one but brown/tan) for my mom new must have been back in the early 90's. It was a struggle pushing her Kenmore twin fan over the plush carpeting. These are easy, no fuss reliable vacs and fairly quiet

Great Pics!

I always loved those vacuums. Great cleaners and you could also buy a cloth bag to use instead of using the paper bags. Amazing how much better the cloth bag would filter.

Thanks for sharing.

Love these Panasonics - you could get a nice long vinyl hose to insert into the port in the back and you have great above- the-floor cleaning potential too.

Nice! Hans! I have a Panasonic from about 1994 -- packed away in a box somewhere... basic machine only a headlight and a check bag indicator. One of the first machines I bought for myself. I've always liked Panasonic vacuums as well.. I remember my babysitter when I was real little -- who had a Kirby Classic Omega, also had a Panasonic Jet-Flo like the one on the Right. I've never once seen one at a thrift store or estate sale.

Thanks for sharing your finds!

Pete's tan and Brown Panasonic !

I had one just like it, bought used in the early/mid 90's. It was great, easy to use. Plus the hose just plugged in the back and you could clean anything, anywhere any time. It was and is still going. My daughter has it in her basement rec room. That room has daily use by her in home day care kids.
All I have ever done to it in almost 20 years of it's use. Is
replace the belts. The brushes are still good on it.
Mine has a blue panel as the bag cover. I would sweep hard floors too, with or with the attachments.
Now there is compition for an Oreck ! It is light weight, powerful (with a canister motor), has attachments too.

I worked.

In a vac shop when I was 18 and 19 and we sold these new, I have the canister that matches the burgandy ones shown in the pics!

Mine is like the one on the right too, also brush still looks new, belt like once a year.

My Panasonic was the model in-between the two burgundy ones and had 3 speeds. It was a darned good all around vacuum. A friend of mine has the model with the continuously variable speed control. The switch is a little dodgy on his, but it still does a great job. It got a workout when I helped him install new carpet in his lower level last year.

I must say that Panasonic makes some very good vacuums. I love the older Jet-Flow models.

I'm eating my words today... I couldn't leave it, when I knew I had only said what I said a few days ago (well, Robert just pointed out to me that I wouldn't have left it--even if I had not said that--true). It's in flawless condition! Very clean, it's going to need very little done to it to make it perfect. And came with the tool set; with a bare floor tool that I've never seen. The tools and package of belts still have their price tags from Best Buy ($29.99/$2.99). I'm just thrilled to have found this -- and absolutely still in total awe that it was there, when I said what I said the other day.

Fred, that pic is great. The lines are really nice, great shape, obviously well-maintained and in perfect condition, pristine, unblemished texture. Congrats!

The vacuum is nice, too.

A word of warning

Be very careful about not running over the cord with these style Panasonics. They are very good at slicing little strips off the cord down to the wires. It's really their only fault.

I will also add, on cheap oriental knock off rugs, impossible to push if the nap is laid down. Perhaps that squeegee on the bottom? It took mine out of daily driver status.

You should be careul about running over the cord with ANY vacuum!

Kyle, I like the full-size red Panasonic there that's your favorite. Here's something you probably didn't know about it though....Lewyt, when the name was resurrected in the late 1990's by SMC, copied this exact Panasonic. The only differences they made was:

1. The Lewyts bag cover was a little more rounded.
2. Lewyt incorporated a large foldout stair-cleaning handle around the motor compartment, and there was also a HEPA filter and lighted bag check light there as well.
3. The powerhead is the same one Panasonic uses on the Performance Plus Platinum line sold in vac shops, except Lewyt added height adjustment & their brushrolls are wooden, not metal like Panasonic (although they did have a metal bottom plate).

I have a Lewyt brochure from when SMC started using the name again & re-launched, so if I can get my camera to take a clear picture of the page they are on, I will post for everyone here.

My Favorite Panasonics..

vacman117's profile picture
I don't know what to call the first one, because it's just a Panasonic, I think it is from 1989. The second is a Performance Plus, and I want to say that it is from 1996 but I'm not entirely sure about that.

Post# 130670 , Reply# 27   4/4/2011 at 17:09 (5,000 days old) by vac_whisperer ()

The non-Performance Plus is DEFINITELY not 1989. It would be more along the lines on 1995 or so.

I have had it confirmed by another collector that it is from 1988-1989..

The one on the left I just call the "dirt sensor" . I picked up a very clean one a couple of years ago and leave it over at my moms house for her cleaning help to use.

Those 3/4 sized Jet Flo dual-purposes, love em. They're very practical and easy to use.. especially if you live in a small house or apartment with a lot of tight spaces to vacuum around, compared to using the full sized machines.
