Nozzle removed.

I can imagine a new D80 was just like this!

This was the first time I literally ever got to see this machine assembled. It came to me in 100% disassembly, right down the the bare motor and all. Odowds vac shop completely buffed every screw and part whilst it was completely torn apart. Just like new, it turned out!

And there ya have it!

I literally use this machine to lightly vacuum the rug in my room. I keep it dusted and untouched. Its too incredibly gorgeous to really use! I dont want to spoil it!

I keep it on a shelf in my room usually. I showed it to my grandma and she about died! She fell in love with it and couldn't believe it was almost 43 years old.

Very sano-looking machine. Maybe better than new. I used to go to old car meets and look under the hoods, seeing many highly polished or shiny painted parts, as was never done originally to cars at the factory. But very nice.

I have a rugged, old D80 out in the garage, but it's very low on my list of priorities. I've had two more in the past but gave up on them. I've got a G Six ahead of the D80 that I'm trying to get finished on.

I saw a reconditioned D80 at the St. Vincent DePaul thrift store near here not long ago. It was a strange sight. Blue trim, blue wheels, with a blue Tradition bag on it. "What's wrong with this picture?" kind of thought. I picked it up and looked at the tag on the case which proclaimed that it's original config had been D80. At least it had a tag on the case; many reco's have the tag removed.

I've said it before and will say it again -- that's my favorite Kirby. I love that handle, with the narrow nozzle ... and that fabulous mid-60s green!
I had mine rebuilt; it runs like new...

I actually got this machine from John Lucia many years ago, when he was selling off some of his collection... Here's a before shot:

Here's the after shot... opening it up when it arrived was like Christmas morning...

Looks good. I just parted with mine a few months ago to a fellow collector. It was that or the Omega and since I prefer brown over green....

Love this machine. I found this post the other day and a day or two later found this machine for sale. I bought the Kirby and it arrived 100% restored. I had Just purchased all new Green parts to be replaced before it arrived. Funny thing is That the machine arrived and It did not need a thing.

BEAUTIFUL! I sure miss mine. The most perfect Kirby I've ever seen/owned by far. A lot of work went into it that I could never replicate again

Just realized this thread is from my old account too. Wow that was 9 years ago.

Odowds really did the best job in the world on my machine. Miss that shop!

To Brandon and Fred

Your machines are stunningly beautiful! These ds-80's are a little treasure. They are the culmination of all the improvements and enhancements made to the 500 series over about a 20 year run or so. Many consider these to be one of Kirby's best ever. I have a few and always enjoy bringing one out for a run.

Two of mine,"the twins" were bought new together by the same person, one for each floor of his house, somebody got a nice commission check from Kirby and I'm happy to have them now. Once again, very nice, enjoy! Billy
