I don't know i this belongs in the vintage forum or not. It's a Royal Handvac. Just picked it up a few hours ago! Runs real nice and im very impressed with it. According to the plate on the bottom, its a model 5000. I was wondering, what year would this be from? And can you use these without a paper bag?

Thanks, VW

Sorry, I accidentally messed up on the font color. It's supposed to be red. ^blush^

Looks to be 1990s, Id say!

Fantastic find! These royal hand vacs are my favorites. I have an early 1970s model 501. Same style.

They can be used without paper bags, but it is messy! If I had the bag collar I would use paper bags.

I use the 501 exclusively to vacuum the insides out of old vacuum bags. Works real well!

Also have 3 red Dirt devil hand vacs. They are nice, but not as cool as the royals!

Yes, I have two DD handvacs. This one is certainly a new toy! :) I mainly use handvacs for vacuuming off stairs and in the "hard-to-reach" areas, such as the other side of a bed, under the table, etc.

PS: I am very sorry for my double-post. That was an accident, as I was trying to change the font color, and I clicked on the "Post" button, the panicked and clicked the "preview." So, yeah. Kind of an "I'm an idiot" moment. -LOL-

I've always loved those little Royals. Don't know what it is about them. I keep mine handy for doing the stairway up to the bedrooms

Any time...

I have one of those Royal hand vacs in a box somewhere. It's been on my list of things I want to find, so I can restore it and put it into use. I think it would do well on my stairs..

I bought a new Royal Prince

at a yard sale a couple of years ago for $5.00. The little sucker is brand new, so I think it was a gift that never got used. Can't remember the model, but it is blue, and matches my Royal 880 almost perfectly.

I have a few Royal hand vacuums-and Red Dirt devil ones too.Like the little machines. Two of the metal ones I have bought one from a yard sale, the other from the vacuum place-and another I bought new years ago.STUPID TTI for discontinuing them.

Because they are stupid

I know I myself had the DD version of the Royal handvac, but was all plastic, but ran good. TTI ruined Royal, Hoover and Dirt Devil both, but DD was never good in my opinion anyways.

TTI, to be fair, was not involved at the time. This was discontinued in 1995 along with much of the original Dirt Devil lineup. TTI didn't buy Royal out until 2002, I believe.
